Has anyone ever run anything else other than 1/4" pitch on an 020 or 020AV?? I am looking to see about changing to 325. Isn't pico the same as 1/4"?? Thanks for the replys.

This is funny I have never run an 020 with 1/4 in chain even though I have that chain around. The older 020's with the smaller engines 1/4 in might be a better chain for those saws. The ones with the bigger engines ( Super ) I have always ran 3/8 Picco on them, this is different than 1/4 . To change over from 1/4 in to 3/8 you have to change your bar of course, sprocket and oiler gear. The 020 will not accept .325, no sprockets for that saw, that chain would have way too big a bite for that size saw.

Thanks Larry for the insight. I have to look at what's available to run. I am trying to get away from the 1/4" stuff and go to a 325 version. I would only be running 14" bar for this is my climbing saw. Could you explain why the oiler gear must be changed too? Are you 100% sure that there is no 325 sprocket available - either spur (which I would think would be the only type available) or rim and drum?

I have an 020 AVsuper with 1/4 pitch chain. Been sitting on the garage shelf for over a year. ???? tempermental thing, cant keep it running!
any offers?

Would take it, but I'm out of space to put things. send me more shelving, and a bigger shed/new 2 car garage, and I might think about it.

NJ,

I am almost certain you can't get a .325 sprocket for 020 to drive a .325 chain. I'm pretty certain spur sprockets are the only ones available for 020.

The reason you have to change oiler gears is because on the 1/4 in. is an eight tooth sprocket to run the oiler gear, the 3/8th's Picco is a six. I put a pic up so you could see the difference, the one on the left is the 1/4 in with the oiler gear, the one on the right is the 3/8 th's, I didn't have a gear that was off a saw for that sprocket for the pic, you can see the difference in the two sprockets.

Thanks for the pic ax-man. I will have to re-think what I would like to do now about replacing that 1/4" stuff.

Steve here... Had a few 020's a while back... found new 1/4 pitch Pro Stihl chain for them... The saw could'nt get out of it's own way. /325 might be better, but a happy MS200 is the way to go.
