I've been flipping though a parts manual online, and it shows that I can get a jug-piston-ring kit for a 55cc motor when Im looking for 50cc kits. Is the 55cc kit going to bolt straight up to my 50 'block' ?

I reckon this can work either as a big bore kit *cough cough* or is there something like the stroke is longer on a 55cc and it uses the same piston and jug?

Anyways, wondering if it will in fact fit, or not.

The 55 belong to the "50 Rancher" family of saws (50 Rancher, 50 Special, 51, 55, 55 Rancher + some Partner and Jred models), so i think that will be possible

- Freakingstang will know for sure, I believe......

one thing

the only thing you have to worry about is where the flange on the base of the cylinder fits into the crankcase. early 50 ranchers had 44mm cylinders 50 specials had a 45mm cylinder. the 45's wouldn't fit on the early 50 R without some work.

Okay, is the 50 special the homeowner version with the gray top?

I thought it worked out that the Rancher had orange plastic, with the homeowner being grey topped. However, I never new this saw to be labeled a Special or not...

I have a 50 Rancher with a white top

And I used to have a '50' with the orange top

Good info Buck. I won't ask how you know..lol Tried it myself on a old white top and ran into the same problem.

Being a Grey top unit, the newer 45mm and 46mm cylinders should fit. If it doesn't fit, I'll send you a bottom end that it will fit on. lol. Curt Bailey is selling 46mm (55) cylinder kits for 60 bucks and some change.

i am building one of these for a 3 cube saw class, and it will be a legit 3 cuber when done, but all the cases I have are 55's....The white top got sold. I will say, that the newer versions with the actual choke lever are much better design than the older air filter choke versions.

being a 50 special, it may have a closed port cylinder. If it does, I want it even if it is scored. Some 50 specials were 44mm with closed port cylinders and others were 45mm with open port cylinders. basically it was special because both version ran a tad better than the regular 50.

Ill get the rebuild kit bought, and see how everything fits...

...Then Ill see about getting the jug sent out to you.

:rockn:

Thanks for the help

My old mule had a pink feedbag just like that one in your picture Itch.
