Also take your time don’t be in a rush if an hr or two breaks the bank on the crane then you should not have it there in the first place.
my last crane job I planned for 7 hours, ended up taking 2 days...

5K pound picks, over a house, climbing with an 881, just wasn't in a rush at all! well even if I wanted to be there was concrete in the tree so that threw off the plans a little LOL

didn't help that they sent the wrong crane out because the one I ordered was in the shop, day 2 they send the right crane and it blew a seal in the rotator fitting in the turntable and I had to send it home, half a day later they brought out the right crane, sucks because we had a LOT of cribbing involved with each setup so we lost a fair bit of time, but I didn't have to pay for the one that broke

also, to OP, put it in the call notes for the crane, which side the boom needs to come off, we had a setup last year where we moved the crane mid job, almost an hour of wiggling the crane sideways into a tight spot, moved a dumpster, etc, but the operator forgot which side to put the boom away, so he boomed up, spun about 2 feet and realized he couldn't spin because there was a tree in the way and he couldn't boom up because he was directly under power lines...

atleast the new crane we get to use, if it's ever fixed, has continuous rotation!

overflowed their drip tray and bucket before we got the boom put away!

yes im aware that shackle is side loaded, the operator gave me 2" slings with 1/2" shackles and the slings wouldn't fit around the pins properly, he didn't mind it and we weren't close to capacity for any rigging... his call not mine

All those picks are 1000000% bad do you know why? It involves the shackle this is a learning question btw. Also there is fine line between his call and yours! The climber is the boss within reason point blank it’s always your call unless it pertains to his capacity or machine. You think he would take accountability if something DID go wrong ? Just a thought

It’s not the shackle its YOUR rigging with the shackle. But I’m sensing you know all.
the sling wouldn't fit where its supposed to within the shackle, I know full well how to use one, these are a SUPER thick 2" wide nylon sling with almost zero flexibility and will not fit around the pin as it should, that size shackle is for a 1" sling or a round endless loop, not a 2" web sling

Btw this is not me being an ass this is me genuinely caring for you and others
I appreciate it, I know it don't sound like it, but I do, if I don't see whats wrong, please do tell me, I seriously don't see anything else wrong

ohhhh wait, also, the sling is set up to tighten the pin, pin should be inside the eye, not the working side! been there, done that, keep a crescent wrench handy to break those free when I forget

oh he's an operator and has half a brain, anybody can figure out that if something is too heavy, its too heavy, doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that tree work and cranes are a very sketchy combo if anything goes even a little wrong
Don’t know if this is direct towards me but I don’t run my own crane and climb at the same time… just saying

directed at genxer

I don't either, but, in response to GenXer's "smart" comment, anybody with at minimum half a brain can tell you that tree work and cranes can get sketchy lol, never once been able to win an argument with physics, atleast in my experience
