Well went out to scout out a good scrounge. Made it through the woods almost hit the field when the truck sank shook and grabbed for traction. LuckI'll I finally got out. I do not know anyone who would make It as fsr back as I did. Atleast nearby. So that got me thinking. Anyone ever use those 2" receiver winch mounts and a winch obviously. I though it would make an easier way to pull the odd log I could easily get to as well. I understand the limitations of a 2" mounted receiver setup. But seems like a quick easy way to mount a winch and use in a pinch or help out with firewood every now and then

Works great! Got the portable winch brand and 300ft of winch rope with many pulleys to increase pulling power. Use it to pull logs out of gullies. Great for rescue of the equipment if I go to far over the edge. Lifting strap around a tree works good for anchor point too.

Just got done watching videos of tractor winches. Thought it was funny all the examples are on flat land.

I have winch mounted to front of my truck. I use it occasionally to pull logs out, its pretty slow tho. I couldn't imagine winching 300', take a long time. Usually I just use the truck, cable & snatchblock to pull logs, lot faster.

Yea I wouldn't use it often for pulling wood either but I know mutilate times it could of come in handy at times where I couldn't get my truck close by.

I usually have 300-400 ft of cable in various lengths, plus the winch cable. Hook the cables, chokers up , snatch block and pull with your truck.

I did something like that but used it on a trailer. The biggest thing to keep in mind is if you intend to winch out your stuck truck you need a winch rated for about 1.5 times the trucks weight, and you'll need some really heavy duty power cables run to the back of the truck. Bigger winches at full load draw 300+ amps.

I wanted to do that with my truck, but with a ~23' 6500# truck it would be pricey.

I have a '84 Chevy K10 and day dream about having a K30 some day with a diesel. I would love to have a PTO driven winch like the old chevy fire rescue trucks. That would be the cats azz. Only problem is getting stuck in an open field means a winch is useless.

nope....... the way to do it,,is to make a waaaaay heavy bar, welded together.,,like a 4 way tire iron....dig hole in preferred place,,and put the 4 way heavy bar,,on the back side of spare tire. bury in said hole. out you come...you do have to, dig deeper than a few inches.........:D

Friend of mine has an 8000lb receiver mounted winch that he has set up to go on the front or back of his pickup plus it will mount on the front of his trailer. Really handy set up. Just don't pull side ways on a hitch. They don't hold up to well like that

Kind of pointless if you need a backhoe or other piece of equipment to dig the hole when you could just hook the cable to the equipment that your digging with... You wont find me with a shovle trying to dig a deep enough hole to bury that thing you described.

In college I parted out cars for a living and had a tilt bed car hauler with a 9000 lb Superwinch mounted to the deck with a receiver hitch. Worked great for loading cars (would skid them even without wheels) and more than one time it was necessary to pull the truck out of nasty places. I "sold" it to a friend who only paid for part of it but he's more than made up for it with lending his carpentry skills to my cabin project.

well, you aint been in hopeless quandary, then.....

so if your in the middle of nowhere,, and no equipment,, and no one to help you dig the hole, do tell whats next, esp if its a 50 mile walk to someplace...........:D:D carry on..........
I guess my definition of hopless quandary varries. :D

You can get the 12k HF badlands winch for 279 if ya watch the sales. This last generation of their winches seem pretty decent. Then find a shop that sells bulk cable, should be able to get set up pretty reasonable.

don't know anything about the badland winches, but with the super winch8000# I use on the front of the f150 its a good set up at 400.00......... for the back bumper I put a utility 3000 sw into the step of the bumper an made a cover to close it in.. that left the 2"reciever10,000 frame mount hitch open to use the sw8000 on either end of the f150! for the power supply I went with #.2(nickel sized) welding cable for about $70.00 for 25' with no power drain affect! will post pics later...IMG_6502.JPG IMG_6503.JPG IMG_6504.JPG

I've also heard a lot of good things about Badlands winches from the off-road community. I'm going to get one when I pick up a trailer.
