I ran my new to me 261 a bit yesterday and was impressed with the snap, its eagerness to rev and the overall balance of the saw. Every saw I have has a MM on it so I’m pretty familiar with louder saws/how they have this habit of stinging the ears if you’re dumb enough to leave out hearing protection. The sonic disturbance the 261 produced was not that of a saw with an extremely restrictive muffler at all. It was glorious and full.

So today I took the muffler off and was quite surprised.

If this is what ppl are calling/have been calling the things I’ve read IDK what color the sky is.

See for yourself. What am I missing here??!

I do believe that is a 262 muffler. The 261 is an EPA saw and had a more restricted muffler. I'd say someone swapped it out at some point.
The 262 never used the muffler that had the louvered opening in the front. I would guess it might be an aftermarket muffler. Can you show a pic of the top of the muffler where the part number would be stamped?
