stihl all the way ! I've climbed for 26 years and I cannot for the life of me figure who the idiot engineers were that would design a saw that would blow hot exhaust back on your hand. That just seems inexcusable they would think about releasing a saw like that. That was the only saw my former boss would buy and I cussed him every time I I had to cut anything bigger than 7 inches. food for thought

edit. forgot to mention thoughts on what Biguglysquirrel said. The plastic DOES BREAK and like he said, it leaves the boot exposed and will eventually wear to the point that it knocks the crap out of ya when you least expect or when your arm is worn out and set it against your waist or leg

We should be honoured, to make 4 posts since 2002 these should be looked on as saged words!

Hey Timber, I apologize about being the ultimate lurker and then bashing any product, but I can't even begin to explain how much heartache the husky 338 has given me. I really love the husky xp line but prefer stihl. Bunching more and more plastic in these tree saws is not the improvements we need. Of course stihl is guilty of this too. And it's really not so much the plastic it's the designs that are not meant to last for such a demanding job. I appreciate lite, but need more rigidity in a tree

I again apologize about the lack of posts and I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and insight.

And if you feel this way I will refrain from ever posting again
Urban Dictionary: Saged It

so just trying to save someone else some heartache. Guess you have to be as experienced at posting here as you do with your recommendations and real life experiences. Sorry I bothered. :mad2:

TimberM ....how many post do you need to make a recommendation ???????? or to post personal experience?????????? Same question for you Ozzy???? 200.......800...... 3308 ?????

Mate in no way was I giving you stick, there are so many that get on this site and put down a thousand posts in a few months and contribute so very little. I respect your disapline and the fact you probably have more of a life than many here.
Well done. The 338 is an real insult, I didnt mean my post to be.

Sorry but I must have looked up the wrong meaning of saged

Referring to badly fu**ing something up: destroying the value of something, looking uneducated in front of others, or acting like a gay redneck. (Saged It)-Adjective/Verb
You Saged It, you made us look like idiots in front of our future employers.

quoted from urban dictionary

and yes I did have to look it up because I've never heard that expression.

Since I was 18 years old I have been a 1st class high voltage lineman and lead lineman. I owned my own tree business for 15 years, and have climbed and run buckets for various other owners. I'm still here and I'm still healthy. So any assumptions that I shouldn't make or don't deserve to make a recommendation about something I feel strongly about are without merit. I would never suggest to anyone not to buy a product that I have not repeatedly had problems with. It could save a lot of hassle when 100' in the air. So please don't take what I said as just some random bash because I don't have anything else to do. I have taught many men to climb and get their careers started as I'm sure you have. So I apologize if I came out a bit too pushy or forward

Edit ... I am guilty of coming here on occasions over the past years to find solutions to certain problems and then not posting a thank you or saying hey. I apologize for that and I am indebted to those that helped me in the past. squirrel64

Firstly its all good, and we live in different nations so a term like saged I guess means totally different things. I was using it to say they were well chosen words, I should look up words before using them! I found under the urban dictionalry -
1.
saged
cool popular

mark is so saged.

I fn hate the 338 with a passion, its like they took a echo, sent it to the chinese to copy, got an italian to reassemble it, and a dutchman to put a price on it. Do you know whats the difference between working in a tree with a 338 and falling out of a tree with a 338?
Their isnt any, it sucks to be you in either situation.

I appreciate everyone's input on this thread. Looks like I will be sticking with the 200. Really, I have had nothing but good experience with that saw. I like to stick with a winner. Was just a little curious when I learned about the power to weight ratio on the 338.

Its rather funny, everyone on here rips the sh!t out of the lil husky 338xpt.

i hate stihl 200s, there shaped like a bloody heavy cinder block. they hang funny on ya harness the on off switch is really really easy to smash off and them dumb flippy caps ##### sake.

The major reason i dont own a 200 is ive broken both of my wrists rather badly, and the 200 makes them ache like hell for a week.

a friend of mine has got his hands on a euro spec t540xp and i can tell you its a lil screamer, but its different to the spec of saw we are going to get here in New Zealand but i still have one on back order at my chainsaw shop, as soon as it arrives im getting one, and i hope its gives stihl a couple good punches in the face cause its time for a new leader.

Let the comments fly.

So your saying your to limp wristed to run the stihl?:yoyo:

I love huskys, but the their top handle series has been as disapointing as the cavalry turning up and being french. I hope this new one is a heap better, because they have generally made the echo look great in comparison.

Thanks Tim, hope your rain jacket leaks hahaha:hmm3grin2orange:

I have had quick go with the new one and its pretty damn good, feels bigger in your hand tho.

Hope your still talking saws!

Most saws have a better shape than the MS200t. Its a brick, but its a reliable, grunty and relatively light saw. Its not clever, but its the best out there. Its top handles what the hilux is to utes (at least the older hilux's). I really really hope the 540 is the saw the 336/7/8/9/ should have been

The 540 i had a lil go with did feel stronger then my 338, but it felt like it had more torque, but it was only on its 2nd tank of go-go Juice.

Dont start me on modern Diesel utes/4x4's, useless waste of time jokes for work vehicle's.

All you guys with a Husky top handle saw have to do is get the exhaust deflector. It bolts on with the muffler and deflects heat away from your trigger hand. Call a good Husky dealer and ask... IIRC ask about a muffler heat shield for a 335. I used to work with a guy that had one on his 338xpt and I have one right here on my Jonny 2139t. I will get a P/N if anyone is interested.

You might look at the 334t's on sale as they phase them out... not too much to write home about but a nice looking price tag and much more impressive than the plastic-dogged 192t.

I thought I got a great deal on the 2139t till I moved and had no dealer support, then I wished I had spent the extra 100 and some change on the orange 338...Just had some finicky issues with it, but it's been working great again for awhile now. If you have a Jonsered dealer around you should try one out.

I know the Husky TH's are known for being more finicky, but the 200t is known as a cinderblock for a reason. I have hated every one I ever ran but that has just been my bad experiences, heck they must cost that much for a reason!!

I would honestly just say stick with what's been working for you. But I think you might be impressed by the handling and power of a 338, I would go with a 14" bar though for sure. I think a 16" bar should be pushed by a 260pro or preferably a 346xp....
