I read many threads in the archives and came up with Mobil 1 2T @ 40:1.

I especially liked these two

According to those 40:1 = the fewest seized engines, there are probably some demographic error, those who use a particular ratio might be more likely to use their saw a certain way but the difference is huge

more oil does make it run leaner and therefore hotter, both by substituting oil for fuel and increasing the viscosity of the mix but if you adjust the carb with that mix there should be no change in temperature,

i read a thread on here some where. it stated that there was a lab test done on fuel/oil ratio and its effects on performance. the test engine was a suzuki motor bike, run at 10,000rpm on a dyno. same oil and fuel was used, only the ratio changed. the best result was at 16-1, giving the most hp.

i have spoken to one of australia's best go cart engine builders and they normally run there oil at 30-1 in there carts to protect the engines.

im using maxima 927 at 30-1 in all my saws now and only use the high octane pump gas.

cheers, serg

Here we go again!

HAHAHAHA!

Well... my brother's, friend's, dad's, buddy's, sister's, boyfriend's, uncle told me that he knows a guy, that knows this guy, that knows this guy, that knows this other guy's cousin that clams that you can run a 2-stroke on thinned out Astro-glide and kerosene.

But, I'm just sayin'...:sucks:

I know the same guy! Last I heard it was a "multi-use" mix of ben-gay (why do they call it than?), JB (cheap) and Silky...

I seem to here alot about 2 stroke karters running their Comer and KT100's at around 30:1.

When your investment is as much as those are...Id sacrifice a little power to prevent block ventilation or metal transfer.

Run them all on Ultra.. the sooner the better. Don't mess with the wacky mix in the pouches. I was seroius - just get rid of it in your bar oil..

I've got 4 dealers I'm testing the waters with. None of them carry Stihl Ultra. They are all like, "nobody buys it, too expensive." I had one dealer check to see how much if I were to order it. He said 2.99 a bottle for the 2.6/1 Gal mix and I would have to buy a case of 48 which is how they come and he can't sell the stuff. I understand/respect that.

Question is, as long as I don't open the bottles, the stuff will last a few years at least, right? (No stale dating on oil mix ever, right?) Not sure how long it will take me to go through roughly 48 gallons... If I got the 12.9/5 Gal bottles, I would have to buy the case of 24 at 10.99 per bottle. Now we're talking 120 gallons of mix. Could take me a good while to blow through that...

They seem to all have the HP super synthetic blend. I didn't check prices yet because I wasn't interested in anything but the Ultra as Lakeside pointed out. I generally like to get the bigger bottles. 1. Bulk, a little less money. 2. Less landfill waste for all the little bottles. They are convenient. 1 bottle /1 gallon, but think about how much waste that is throwing out a perfectly good bottle and adding to the landfill every time you mix a gallon of gas. Stihl should offer a deposit for gently used (brand new) bottles so they can refill them and sell the stuff again. I sound like a darn treehugger...

Should I pursue the really good stuff as it seems once I buy it, I'll have enough on hand to last me a while, or is next best HP Super my best bet? Also, have been running the orange bottles of High Performance forever. Just save my money and keep on keeping on?

Just buy quart of Mobil 1 racing 2T from Autozone, it's just as good if not better than Stihls ultra.

+1 on Andyshine. I'm sure the Stihl Ultra is great stuff. The Mobil is great stuff too, easier to find, and cheaper. I paid $8 for a full quart, which is way cheaper than much of the dino stuff....and you don't have to mess with those #$%* little bottles.

Mark

BTW, 40:1 or 50:1, just pick one and get on with life. You've already wasted too much time on it. Heck, split the difference and make everyone upset. 45:1 is the "perfect" mix rate. Just ask me.

buy the way tried the canola yet???

hey gary,

what ratio do you run?
what oil?
what fuel?

i'm guessing that your using alot more than me and cost may be a factor?

Your dealers need to wake up and just try it. Bet they never have stocked it. We had the same concern, but found no price resistance. In any case, it's an easy "upsell"... Oh, they don't HAVE to sell it at $2.99.... in fact it sells for $1.99 out here, and there's a 50% margin in that price... if you do buy a 48 bottle case, I'd be looking for one hell of a price! BTW, the 6.4oz 2.5 gallon mix lists for $3.49 or so... we've dropped the dino except for a small qty of the 2.5 gallon mixes, and even stock 1 gallon containers of the HP Super.

It lasts indefinitely if you don't open it. Once opened, hard to say but just squeeze the air out and it should last for years.

The HP Super a fine mix oil , and great for all 2 smokers, and all 4-mix OTHER than blowers.

The mobil product is fine, but it does not contain fuel stabizers, so use it promptly.
