If the horsepower required to cut your 14" is less the horsepower of both saws being tested, the saw with the highest chain speed in the cut is going to be the first through. Now if you wanted to put a larger sprocket on the higher displacement powerhead to make use of the additional horsepower converting it to chainspeed, or make your tests on piece of wood 24' in diameter. I'm sure your results would be the opposite. I'm not trying to defend or attack one model or brand because this will hold true.
+1, i had an 084 w/ a 24" bar, no real difference in cutting speed between it and my 660, but with 36" the 084 had an upper hand (hardwood of course)
