I talked to a 60 year old tree man from Wa. state... said he was the only one is his area, 50 mi wide, that has a bucket truck and he does only removals that he can cut and bomb... never usues a lowering line.. cuts everything into firewood and bombs chuncks on the way down... his 40 year old son chips the bruch and they usually leave the wood... any job that requires more than that he walks away from.... tries to makle around $800/day for the two men and the bucket... Biggest saw is an 044...
What do you say to a guy like that??? He's definitely set in his ways..

no lowering line

MB, But then he'd have to sell $1200 a day jobs:D
All kidding aside, what is his son going to do when the old man can't go out on the job anymore? Doesn't sound like the son is learning new techniques he'll need later when the old man is too old to go out and find jobs. I hope the son can do all the old man can and then some. More power to them if they can find work enough to pay the bills in such a small niche but you still need to know how to do more if called on to do it.

Sounds like it really simplifies things; gravity is pretty predictable and you dont need all that silly rope and saddles; Bunch of smoke and mirrors to make the price higher is all that is!

and i bet he is busy all the time ..good luck to him ..hope hes not topping though but i bet he is ;)

Sounds insanly slow, thats the kind of guy to laugh at, i knew a guy like that, what a joke, they would put a rope on the limb but they would just yank it clear on the way down every time, no lowering, i wouldn't geyt near them doing trees.

at least hes out there good luck to himyou can get away with heaps in a 75' tower probably making a killing with little thought having to go into it.similar to GM and his popa

Fire wood lenghts from the tree is nonsense, unless the tree is THICK or there is no place for a lowering rope.

and?so what, you dont even climb you will never know the feeling of having your life in your own hands day in day out

Ok aussie, youll never know, you will never grasp what i'm talking about, you will never understand what its like to be the son of a climber that was cutting trees, and cutting trees and cutting trees and cutting trees, and dads home after a couple more monster poplars, and cutting trees and helping cut trees for my dirt bike and cut some more trees on the weekend visit with him, and cut some more trees, and more trees, and tommorow will be more trees and more trees and next december 24 i'll be cutting a tree.

Why not ask me a good question like how many times ive seen my father sitting in a tree cause it was two hard to stand and keep his balance, The answere is 1 Time in years of doing trees every day.

Hey Ausie, the fact that i go to work every day and have a good chance of seeing my father die right in front of me is almost worst then dying myself!

hey, Daniel, do you know where in Wa the fellow is located? 75 feet reach is a pretty large boom. $800 a day for two guys and a bucket....sounds like a contented fella...with simple needs...and not much ability to do difficult trees, eh?!

There are few companies , even in Puget Sound, that have bucket trucks. I have rented them a few times when I need to work on a huge spreading elm or similar tree, for easier access to the tips. The friend who shared the GRCS purchase with me, is considering one of the new elevator or teleescoping boom trucks...but at $100K or so, is a mighty substantial investment.

For a while, I've been mulling over a 55 footer that a friend wants to sell, for 10-11K....not in bad shape, and it comes with a set of Acklee air tools. Likely a good deal...though it'd need some work I'm sure to get recertified. If it was a 65 footer, I'd jump on it.

With as many tall trees, small propertiies, and hilly areas, there are few times when we could really use a bucket....and of course most trees are easy to do without..

hey rb check out some of the japanese import trucks with lifts,i looked at one the other week on a truck 7' wide a little mitsubishi with a good set of out riggers it had a two stage telly boom and 10' fly with 19m reach70'?all round they are mighty cheap

from what ive seen for sale in the states second hand tower wise im not that impressed,a knuckle tower is ok but so common a 70_75 ft telly tower with a fly boom is way better. The pick of the bunch in us built towers in my opinion is versalifts.if you look you will be surprised by what the japs have on offer.the reason you dont see them in US is because you already have so many at reasonable prices,in the pasific asian region importing japanese trucks pick ups is big buisness, ive been trying to look up chippers over there they must have them.
