A 038av needs a little help

Right I've got a belter of a spark.
First off I disconnected the shorting wire off the coil and viola a spark so I completely removed the black donut thing under the flywheel as it was already not in circuit then remade all the wires I'd cut and swapped while testing.

The coil it set a business cards width from the flywheel and yeah, a very strong spark. After a few hours of nothing I wasn't expecting a zap! It got me a few times before I let go an then did it again a few minutes later off a screw driver!

It's quite bright just flinging the flywheel by hand.
So just the anti-crud grommet that covers the carb screws left to arrive and I'll put the carb on and put some fuel in it.

I don't like to give up and I don't like to be beaten expecially by mechanical items that aren't rocket science. I will say 2 strokes are not my strongest subject but I wasn't given in now I'm a few quid in.

It's much bigger than the 021 and I'm looking forward to hearing it running, it will be borrowing the 20" bar from the 660 for its first outing.

Exactly what I mentioned earlier- spending money on parts for a saw that isnt going to fire.
There was (not sure if still is) a chip available from Stihl that mounts above the coil and will replace the module under the flywheel- similar to a Nova chip, will have to consult some service manuals to find out the part number.

I hear ya bud, I just thought "eventually" its got to fire... might cost a few quid but as the saw was free I'd set a limit of £100 to spend as they go for that not working on ebay.

I looking for it to take the jobs I do with the 660 ,it's just to big really for what I need. I only really bought it to do one big job on a fallen eucalyptus tree then it will be excess to my needs. The 038 should should slot nicely in the middle and not be as heavy.

Ah, yes, but by the sounds you had spark- you just had not found it yet.

I've fitted part 4 (the clamp) but part 2 and part 3 are still quite floppy.

028 had a spacer behind the adjuster. Not sure if the 038 uses it.

The handle from an old reach toothbrush fits well enough to call that a quick fix. Now the adjustment screw isn't sloppy and the locating post is free to move up and down the thread without binding.

I that is a generator for heated handles, 1118 400 4000. Don't chuck it out. Do you have heated handle parts too?

There was a gap where the switch should be but the handle looks normal without any electrical connections. I've seen other saws with a grommet covering the switch hole.

There was a heating element and two clamps that fit inside the handle.

I've fitted that little black saddle into the gap to hold the screw shaft, then I refited the inner side cover and all works perfect, just like new!.

Also when it's running I'm going to refit that coil and measure the output, if it's enough amps I might fit a USB to power my heated vest.
