Was cutting today and hit some dirt, decided to put my other chain on. Is there a fast way to change chains? Seems to be a big pain compared to my stihl. Other question, when I bought my saw the guy took some links out of the stihl chain so I could use it on my husky. Both chains are .325, but the stihl chain is very tight in the grove on the bar. Are they different? I didn't use it, but it's an almost new chain and I'd like to use it. Third question, I know I said a couple. The plug is a chocolate milk color. Should I lean it out a little. I don't have a tach. Runs out good. My stihl plug was always a dark gray. Thanks for the help.

I will answer what I can for you. There is a posibilty the chain will not fit, all of the .325 Husky chain seems to be in .050, but Stihl does still make some .325 in .063. So it may not fit.

Yes, it's a real SOB to change the chain on a 346, doesn't seem that hard on the 350, but I usually have to do it twice on the 346 to get the chain in the sproket properly!!

It sounds as if the saw is running a little rich, but it's hard to say without a tach!

Hi farmer. The drive links are probably .063 gauge on that stihl saw compared to .050 or .058 on your husky, hence it will be way too snug and wear your bar groove in a hurry.

You need to check the guage of that Stihl chain and make sure its the right size for the groove in your bar. Does that Stihl chain have a number 6 on the drive links, if so its a .063 guage. Your bar may be a .058 guage explaining why the fit is so tight.

I assume the changing chain pain is due to a outboard clutch on the Husky verses a inboard clutch on the Stihl, just asking for I have no clue about that clutch on the Husky. Some I'm told are outboard and some are inboard.

It is outboard, but of the other Huskies I have owned, this one is buy far the hardest to change the chain on for some reason!!

Thanks for the quick replies. I figured they were different but didn't measure them. I was trying to get as much cut as possible on my one day off in sixteen. Kinda makes it hard to get much done around here as far as wood cutting goes. Glad I've got a big pile of wood split and stacked. I guess I'll take the saw back to the saw shop and have them put a tach on it and then lean it out abit. Thanks for the help.

I dont get it why its so hard to change chain in huskies, its all a bout techique, juft lift the bar out og grove, slip chain on sprocket and the other end on bar then lower down the bar and tighten it...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting. I've had a few Huskies come in for new chains to be cut and installed and yes that outboard clutch is alittle harder to fool with but not all that much. Can usually turn the shop lite off, cut the chain off the reel and install it on the saw before the room gets dark,LOLOL, gotcha brother Andew,LOL

Again, I didn't say all Huskies, I said this was the hardest of the Huskies I have owned. None of the other Huskies have been a problem!!

All that is right, except the part of outboard clutces making chain changes a pain.

Initially maybe, but when you have adjusted your technique, it is not a problem. ;)

I find that the "stepped" bar bolts on the Stihls create more trouble, even though that isn't a big deal either....... :taped:

I have other issues with outboard sprockets, but not that one.....

It shouldn't be a problem on the 346xp, when it isn't on the 353 - that would just be too odd........:D

Just hold the bar at an angle outwards when you put the chain over the front and aft sprocket, and the "problem" disappear.....;)

If I remember right, His 346Xp was Modded. ;)

Chain

I am with SawinRedneck on the 346xp. I seem to struggle getting the chains on properly on that saw. Have even considered selling it and modding the Dolmar to take over the duties...
