I have heard talk of tweeking saws to get more power, I think Stihl-o-Matic mentioned 'porting out the muffler' in a recent post. I had some random dude on a job site say his buddy mixed some high octane racing or jet fuel to make his saws rip.

I myself am not very knowledgeable about the processes involved, but I would like to get as much power as I can out of my saws. My question is what can I do/have done to my saws. Also what risks are involved? I appreciate all feed back, not matter how radical or random.

Also I am running Stihl ms192t, 036, and a Jonsered 70e. The 70e is as old as I am, 28, but still rips like mean machine

I think he might want to hear how climbers tweak the saws we use, without creating a saw too finicky to work right all the time. cant overdo it, and have a saw not able to go up.

I know I would, We have a new 200t, and it runs significantly weaker than the 2 we have that are "adjusted" and I'm ready to pull the arrestor today. but would like to hear what else, richen the H jet a little too, right? then what?

I have had saws ported by someone else in the past, but have a mechanic now to do what I ask. I am too hyper to work on anything with little parts. :laugh:
 
While I have not run a 192t, I hear they respond very well to muffler mods. This does not mean taking the spark arrestor screen out, although you can. Basically the process involves de-restricting the mufler to allow the saw to breathe a little easier, and make more power. There is no "standard" muffler mod. Everyone does it a little different. many times, a muffler mod requires welding. Sometimes you can modify one by just removing material with a drill or porting tool.
If you are not going to study up, and do the work yourself, the best bet is to have someone experienced with that model do it for you. Modded mufflers typically have an extra outlet for the exhaust, or a greatly increaed size of the original one. Sometimes this can cause burning/melting of plastic, and/or exhaust pointing in a direction you may not like. Also, the modded mufflers will be at least a little louder and could be a whole lot ouder depending on what is done. You will also need to re-adjust your carburetor for the different fuel demands of the modded muffler. That may mean removing the limiter caps, or swapping the entire carburetor if yours has a fixed jetting.
I would start on the mufflers, and go from there if you still think you need more power. The chainsaw forum has TONS of info on it, and some VERY experienced saw builders visit there many times each day.
As for the fuel, race gas and AVGAS 100LL is a waste of time unless you advance the ignition timing. You probably do not want to do that on a work saw. Member blsnelling just did a good comparison thread running several different types of fuel in the same Stihl 064 in some larger wood. Well when your looking for advise on how to rig a tree then ask a climber, but if I am looking for advice on tuning a saw I am going to the top. There are some true masters on the chainsaw forum. The fact is a chainsaw is a chainsaw no matter were the handle is and if you want advice on saws those are the guys to ask. I know there are some real good saw mechanics here but if your just pulling your arrestor and turning your high speed screw up you are missing a lot of performance especially on the newer detuned saws.

first thing i do on a 200t.it's like you bought a new saw ,right after you bought a new saw.it's a twofer!

richen the H about 1/8 to 1/4 depending on the saw and where you are.no need to do any mods to the 200.you won't gain much if anything.

i'd never run a 200t with the screen in the muffler.had mine almost 4 years,never an issue.

if you pinch them and jerk on them a lot,you will get an intake leak.
