A view inside the guts of a really old mac 130!

Turns out i had a air leak and I'm doing new seals. Just thought i would share a photo of the inside of the cylinder. Looks pretty good for being so old!

Chance of me getting the points working again is slim so this might go on the shelf in the garage and I might have a few carbs up for sale soon. Or not!



I set the flywheel on a vice with the cylinder hanging between it and tapped it off in 1 shot with a center punch. I'm guessing this thing will implode after being put back together.

Clean the points with fine crocus cloth (400/600) and follow up by dragging clean paper through them. Points are cheap, easy, and reliable.

If you need replacements I have plenty of NOS 88811 available.

And FWIW, the 130 is not a "really old" saw...

You actually have an excellent chance of getting that saw to run if you clean the points as described above, and install a rebuild kit in the carburetor.
These small Macs are actually (in my opinion) pretty easy to work on and reliably get running again.

It's older than I am! I think of myself as old now so that's why I said that lol

Yeah, it is a process to work on it for sure, but I don't think it's really complicated. The biggest tip i found was on YouTube from a video from Leon's saw repair on how to just pop the gas tank off in like 1 second. The first time it took me 20 minutes. I can pull the whole thing apart, rebuild the carb, and put it back together in 15 minutes now.
