The AMSOIL rep stopped in the store this afternoon and I am considering carrying it. I know this has been talked about in numerous threads, but I would appreciate it if some of you guys that are running it could fill me in on the basics. Mainly, why do you prefer to use it.

He gave me some samples that I'll try in my own stuff. 100:1 sounds like asking for trouble, so I was thinking of mixing it at 50:1. I'll try it in both a fairly new saw as well as one that is very well broken in. What will I notice? Will it be immediate, or do you need a few tanks to see anything? I suppose that there are some long term benefits to the bottom end of the saw also.

Thanks for the help.

I will tell you this; I run Amsoil motorcycle oil in my Yamaha Rhino...absolutely wonderful stuff. Engine runs much quieter and cooler than before. Never tried it in two strokes as 100;1 scares the crap out of me. Too expensive to burn at 50:1.

Spike,

I,ve used the Amsoil "Dominator" racing synthetic @ 50:1 for a few years now in all the 2 stroke stuff we have ............motocross bikes, saws, weed eaters, giant scale RC planes.
No problems with bearings / seals or pistons, and no smoke either! Also, very little carbon build up.
It works for us, period!
Amsoil recomends 50:1 with this product.
I've heard & read all this stuff re. 100:1. In my opinion you're asking for trouble when the equip. gets hot and needs the extra lubricant. Maybe OK in a perfect enviroment , or for short hauls (hot saws) ?? I'd be interested to hear if these saws make a little more power @ 100:1?
Oh yeah, they say no Alky or Nitromethane mixes.........DAMM!

Sold a guy a PS401 Dolmar new, he claimed he was going to run Amsoil 100:1 in it. I tried to talk him out of it, he said it never caused any problems. That was last fall early and other than him coming back for a new bar when a tree went the wrong way I haven't heard from him. No news is good news.

Oil very RARELY cause problems in the short term. Long term is were the differances occur and incedently longer in time than most peopl put on in a lifetime.
That said IMO Amsoil is mediocre at best and the 100:1 idea is pointless.
Wanna ruuun a synthetic? Use mobil 2R. Its light years ahead of ANY Amsoil aircooled oil.

What is it that makes the 2R a better oil?
I'm not trying to sell the Amsoil, we prev. used BelRay racing synthetic when it was easy to find.

The base oil and additive are proprietary and unique. Amsoil buys their base oils from Mobil and additive packages from Lubrozol. As such they never get the top the line stuff technology wise as Mobil keeps it proprieitary.
From testing Amsoil 100:1 I can say with certainty that it DOES NOT decrease deposits one iota. In fact some other oils I have tested that are synthetic blends are cheaper. There are also other issues, but I dont want to get long winded.

Come on Ben you live for Amsoil threads..LOL Let the wind blow..

Yes, it's been at least a few weeks since we had a good amsoil roast! Crank it up full!

I beleive Ben's last comment on the matter was that it was good for keeping dust down on drit roads.

Amsoil

Spike 50, I have been ysing Amsoil for close to three years in my 028-041 and my weedeater stihl55. I started using it at 100/1. I used it at this ratio for over 4 months.May-August in hot NY summers. The saws started easier, no smoke and love to rev. However, I have to agree with other members and am now using it at 40/1. I have a case of the 2 cycle on my bench as we speak. The saws compression has not dropped one pound. I am a sold Amsoil user.My plugs look like I just put them in.Ken

Thanks for the input guys!

There was one comment about the price, and I honestly haven't looked at the price sheet yet. If it's pricey, it will sell in small quanities, and might not be worth the effort.

I'll still try it myself and see if I notice a differance.

I'm interested in your test results. Do you have a copy of your test report? Thanks

Paul61,

Why do you use Dominator, which is an injector oil? Why not use Saber instead?

I use Saber mixed at between 40:1 and 50:1 and have had no problems at all. No smoke, very little if any carbon build up. After two years the saw still runs like new. No scoring on the piston, or varnish build up of any kind.

If you are looking for some good oil information check out this site:

Bob is the Oil Guy

Do you know of this site Ben?

Erik,

You threw me a curve about the injector question, had to check it out on Amsoil's site, here's the link to the Dominator stuff;

www.oilsandlube.com/dominator.htm

Can be used as both pre-mix & injector.

I get the same results as you obtain with your Sabre Oil, it works fine in all our 2 stroke stuff.
I just checked what I paid for the last jug..........$50.00 (CND, taxes in) for 1 U.S. gal.

These brand name threads make for interesting reading but, in the end, you use what works for you. If the Sabre or Mobil works , then please stay with it.
When I see someone carving a brand up ( you didn't), it would be nice to hear the reasons (& test results), not just the usual Ford vs. Chevy stuff?

Paul,

Dominator is mainly used as an injection oil, that is what it's primary function is. Sabre is designed as a pre-mix which is why I use it and not Dominator.

I've tried all kinds of different stuff, I was hooked on Opti-2 for awhile and was using it at close to 75-1. They say go 100-1 but I figured it wasnt that much more. I have now switched to Amsoil for everything and the only variance is that the ratios between the saws or dirtbikes or whatver else I put it in. On the saws I stick to abotu 75 still, the dirtbike I run closer to 95 because I run with low RPMS for extended periods of time and am not winding it up. (narrow trail riding).

I signed up to be a dealer and am buying more of their other products besides 2 stroke oil for my own use. My one friend who runs it is his diesel truck will pay for my dealer status by himself and I have talked with a couple farmers who are going to run it in their tractors for a year to try it out and buy from me.

You do not have to live near a dealer to buy it, It can be drop shipped directly to your door. Without looking to torque anybody off regarding paid supporter status and advertising etc., You can email me or give me a call and I can either help you out or send you to someone near you if you want.

Be careful ....the word Amsoil strikes up fear and loathing on this board.
