Today was my lucky day. The Country Club had some big trees just brought down and waiting for a guy like to me approach them and ask "What are you going to do with them?" They said take all you want, we usually burn it up!

After meeting the manager of the club he asked if I could bring down a 80-90 ft. Live Oak that is precariously leaning into the course. He said that they were afraid of it the way it is semi hollow on one side and leaning already.

After looking at it I said sure, base around 4 feet. He was so excited and asked if he could pay me. Pay me for 5 minutes work? NO! I just want a constant supply of quality wood when me and the neighbors need it! He said whatever you want, golf, wood, anything.

So I was thinking this Country Club isn't any different than any other, I bet if you guys looking for firewood call on the maintenance supers about free firewood they just might oblidge! Free is Free to me!

Sorry for not having the pictures right here. Need to work with the camera and get the size smaller. Files are too big, but the above link should take you to them. I'll do better next time.

Nice score, John! Congrats!

Of course, if they asked if they could pay me, I'd at least have gotten gas/oil costs out of the deal, but that's just me. And it's more than five minutes work to drop a rotten tree like that. Drive there, get gear ready, assess, start cutting, reassess. Those minutes add up. :D

Up here, any hardwood that comes down in either a park or a golf course is immediately spoken for by the city/golf course workers who take it down. LOTS of woodburners up here, and not so much free wood.

I know, it's a Honda. I run Savannah to Ohio often and for the mileage, speed, and cornering there just isn't any truck that will keep up with this sissy truck. Serves the purpose. I knew that you guys would make fun of my truck. But I've owned a fleet of real trucks, Macks. Have a CDL Class A license still. But that's OK, I'd make fun too! What makes it tough is that you have to be careful putting cookies into the bed by yourself as you must lay them down easy, so nothing breaks! LOL! Thanks for the comment! Great bumper sticker! Need one for my truck.

great idea, but bring smaller logs to fell the tree on, to protect the course, and you will get total points. Just be sure the tree falls on them!

Thanks. Great idea. I did mention the course and he said don't worry about it, they are that happy to get the golfers off their backs. Guess the ball hits the branches sometimes. I wonder what their excuse will be once it is gone? But I'll be as careful as possible anyway.

I do this layin of logs to the point of fall any time I plan to drop a tree as fire wood. It just helps me cut off the ground. A few dead and long dried pine rounds about 6 feet long do it for me.

I just got sick of cutting a big heavy hard wood 1/2 buried in the dirt.

Your Image Host SUX, one has to join to view your Albums, and even the small preveiw is really slow to load.
Photo bucket is free and will re-size for you. Or your camera should have came with some basic software to do that for you.

Thanks Roots for the advice. New to the picture posting. But now I have it fugured out. Nice comment. Wish I had a hat like that, actually two of them!

I just laid out a timber sale to reduce shade by 30% on three greens on a golf course. Golf Forestry is weird.

How many trees are they taking out to make it a timber sale?

Yep. It's not good 'Netiquette to host pics on a site that requires membership.

Imageshack works, too.

There are plenty of good freebies that will do that. Here are three that are very popular:

One does not know until someone tells them. It will never happen again.

Funny how those so critical, when reviewing their own posts, have so many holes in their own.

And those so critical don't comment on the content, the reason we are here, but only on the negative, like some pictures.

Great lesson learned, I'll be watching your further posts.

Time for a J.W. Blue.

Ah, who cares? It's an Internet forum, after all, which can get a lot like an elementary school playground. Long on grudge and short on manners. Now, that J.W. Blue sounds like some nice sippin'! :D

Thanks. I have learned so much from the good guys in this forum. The blue is a nice splash after a great day! If you were close I'd pour you a splash. Better watch what I say or those who have never enjoyed a J.W. Blue will be telling me everything that is wrong with it without ever having tasted it. LOL! You are right, elementary playground, I like that one.
Take care.
John
