Hi Guys,

Been here since the fall '06. Ohio was most of my life, Canton, exactly. Learned chainsaws on my own and from Amish Loggers and the Amish Chainsaw shop. They give 10% off list by the way and really know their stuff.
I'm a Scuba Diver amonst many other hobbies like chainsaws and this southern location gives me a closer trip when I go abroad.

I will say though that overall the Northern Men know saws, wood, and the like much more than those who I have run across here. More mechanically inclined in the north for whatever reason. Now don't get me wrong, there are huge amounts of timber, pine specifically logged here and exported. I just haven't met any of them yet. But the Stihl/Husky shops....they just don't have much on the ball in my opinion. And NO discounts, not even for multiple purchases. But that's fine, that's their stores. I just take my business back north!

Thanks.

How many trees are they taking out to make it a timber sale?

You're not gonna believe this, but...

11, 8, 40, and 11 trees in the 4 sub-units. All told, that's about 65,000 BF. I marked specifically for big, full crowns so that each tree removed would count for as much shade as possible, in order that I could remove as few trees as possible, in order that the golf course's "forest" would still look like a "forest". I'm also having them remove a badly fire-scarred and center-rotted DF that would fall across a green and a trail. I bored it at shoulder height and pulled dust after the first inch. It's not safe to have people walking around a tree in that shape.

I don't like golf courses.

Unreal.

One reason I asked is we have an apartment where we are removing about thirty DF's with a 28" average DBH. Branches on all of them start about 30' up. There is clear area to drop all but a couple of them.

Obviously you can't say over the internet if there is a use for them besides firewood, but your post got me to thinking that I should seriously look into treating it as timber instead of a tree job.

Me too if your gonna post people are gonna fun ya, especially about Ridgelines. Its all in good fun, meant no harm, here yuppies buy 50k diesels to haul groceries and tow 3000 lb utility trailers, when they see all the dents in the back of my truck they almost faint. Tired of Yuppies and 50k grocery getters.
