Obviously it was those dang Russians... again.
I wonder if it was one of those cheap battery powered ones.
Could you provide your source pleaseSmoking while refueling? Sadly far more common than most think.

Yeah, Sean is violently anti-smoking, but he likes the "look"........Yes but it isn`t lit so no spark or heat to cause fire.
You would never believe the amount of oldtimers I worked with in the woods that smoked and handled refueling with a lit cig just a puffing away and fumes rising all about them as they just dumped fuel in a saw or tractor. Only chainsaw I ever seen lit up was my dad`s old 1100 when we were fighting a forest fire. Old saw always drooled fuel when run on its side felling, it lit up but dad didn`t even blink an eye, just took his ball cap off and beat the fire out while never letting off the throttle. Wouldn`t have been pretty if the thing had exploded.
just a little static from low humidity and the correct material sweater, or from the car not having something grounded right"
All pump hoses need grounding wire incorporated into the casing, attached to the pump nozzle and ran through the pump housing on to earth ground. Guys fueling machinery from the tanks located in the bed of a truck box risk fires and explosion, good thing they mostly handle diesel. They would always make us fill the jugs on the ground in the G&O industry. The nozzle builds S/E as the fuel goes through too.
Most fires are from the inability to ground due to box liners or fuel in back seats or the carpets. I believe shorter nozzles as well slower feed helps.
