I've only run about 5 tanks of fuel through my 357Xp, but I'm really loving it more and more as I use it. Its got DAMN good power for a 57cc motor. I love the Purr of those screaming high rpm's.
Its buy far my favorite saw of all.

Have you tried a Jonsereds 621, 56cc, introduced 1970??

Pretty amazing that one also, 3/8x8 is standard sprocket.....:greenchainsaw: :greenchainsaw:

I have a 357 and my only dislike is the :taped: chain tensioner set up and it being cold hearted till warmed up. Hate the handle angle, like the jonsered handle alot better on the 2159. The 359 I tried out was the same way in the 20 degree temps.
Plus side is smooth and very fast and plenty of torque for a 46mm bore saw.

My cutting partner got his 357 first. He kept telling that I should replace my 14 year old 262 with one before it lets me down. Well the 262 did let me down during a job, no big deal just had a new coil put in then I bought a new 357 also. That was about a year and a half ago. After that on jobs all's I hear was his saw was faster...... and still picking up speed. Yep thats when I got my 357 wood ported and now he keeps pick up my saw because it's closer?? He no longer talks about his 357 being faster lol. Now I just hear about his 335xp Ca special being so fast...... Time to have my 338xp ported.
Any ideas how to shut him up?

I believe modding it is the only way to get a 357xp cut anywhere close to the 262xp, and they weight the same.......

The handle angle is the only reason that I stay away from the better looking Jonsereds, they cost less than the "similar" Huskys here.......:greenchainsaw:

Yes Troll It's been a toss up between the two. The 262 still goes on the tractor when I going to the woods, but I now longer take it to do tree jobs. People pay good money for us to work for them I want good state of the art equipment do that. Still looking for a way to shut my partner up..lol If I change the topic to Dodge trucks he'll talk all day..

The 262xp is one of the "all time great/ hall of fame" saw designs, the 357xp is not, imo, but it is a pretty good one.........:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Nope, but I got a SACHS Dolmar 116 thats from somewhere in that era!
Its a great saw, but the 357XP smokes it badly!

I've gotta go by the saw shop tomorrow and pick up a case of bar oil and a case of 2stroke oil...I'll probably end up leaving there with that 357 like I did the 575 I swore I'd never buy earlier this week....I've got a stand of 36 inch white pines to take down in the morning. That'll be a good place to try it out...I'm gonna try and post some pics of this job in progress. All of them have to be dropped precisely in between some power lines...It should be fun.

Timberhauler I did a job last fall with a bunch of White Pine. Used my 575 to put 'em on the ground and the 357 to cut to size for the ride to the brush pit. Great saws as you well know.

Ouch!, nothing like that full retail on the 357. I don't think he will sell many at that price when a new 441 is just a few bucks more.

The margins have gotten so low to where if we want to present stihl and husky equally we cant budge much from power price and still make enough to keep it profitable to handle the line. With all the heavy discounting (i'm all about a good buy but ya have to make enough to stay afloat) it makes it hard. Feels like a lot of ppl think ya make double what ya paid for on a saw. I wont get into details but you can assume you make roughly the same on stihl and husky...but that's only true if you sell husky at power price.

Dammit troll, I gotta run my 357 dry and weigh it now!

:buttkick:

According to DLG/KWF test reports, the empty powerhead weight of the 357xp is 5.9 kg, the 2159 is 5.9 kg, the 359 is 5,8 kg, and the MS361 5.6 kg.

Add to that, the Stihl bars are lighter than the Oregon and Husky ones, with similar configuration......

Is it possible they are different over there? It sounds like your 361 is very different...

Nope, just a slightly different cylinder (porting) and muffler - and the saws here have no spark arresters........

The 361s here are rated at .1 kW more than the US ones, the Huskys are rated the same.

Independant dyno tests show that the Euro MS361 has both the same max power and the same max torque as the Husky 362xp and 365, but at slightly higher rpms than the 365. It is more than a pound lighter........
