i am fed up with the places around here.we have more tree companies per capita or square mile than any where on earth and no one wants to carry anything.

they can order it for you at a markup of course.
i don't mind driving a little or paying extra for things in stock but why pay extra for someone to order it.i can order it my damn self.

so does anyone in CT,MA,or RI carry anything? i can't even get gaff pads around here in a pinch. i just don't get some folks around here.they piss and moan they have no business but yet they have nothing to sell.even carabiners and split tails are getting difficult to find.

when i walk in your store with $1500 in my pocket,i don't want to hear "i can order it for you" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get my stuff from a couple of places "local". The closest one, about 25 miles away, is just starting to supply stuff and is growing according to demand. Tree climbing is a small market considering a lot of companies do it from a bucket.
The other place I get my supplies from is my Vermeer dealer but that's 2 hours away. Every year, when I go hunting for the week, I take my chipper up, drop it off for an overhaul on the way and on the return trip, I pick up the items I told him to order or that he has in the store. Works pretty well. Other than that, Wesspur.

Its probably too far for you, but I like Newtown Power Equipment. you could spend your wad there for sure.

i went there a few weeks ago.

bought some wide Weaver pads they swore by.i hate them.i went back to the velcro wraps.the new angled ones kick ass.

as much as they seem to have,i wasn't impressed.

the Vermeer place isn't bad but they still pull the "i'll order it for you" and they are an hour away "if" there is no traffic jams.

i have a Sherrill catalog,i can order it my self.

they had several sets of Geckos with Euro gaffs.if the had the American gaffs,i would have walked out with them.they didn't so i didn't.

a lot of people still climb here.

Newtown has gecko's now? I havent been down there for a couple months, they didnt have em then. I think its a good store, they sell three brands of saws and have a good saw mechanic - plus they usually put my stuff ahead of joe homeowner, so I'm good with them.

Alot of people still climb here? I'm not getting where your going with that one?

No one supplies the needs of climbers around here.
have to kind of agree it would be nice to try something for once to know if I like it, instead of mail ordering it then finding out too late it sucks

Sounds really odd with so many tree guys up there that you have no stores. I am totally rubbing it in when I say I have at least 3 decent shops within 15 minutes. Ha ha ha haha hah ha ha ha ha. And if I want I can make it to the sherrill store in Jersey in about an hour... but i don't want.

But really I feel your pain. You guys keep saying you are in one tree guy hot spot. Maybe its the same here, there is a lot of us... and some of them.
The stores that are here now have been here for eons too so its not like they are popping up. One place just shut down due to retirement.
Basically what I am saying it sounds like one of you CT boys need to do it. I wouldn't be in business if I had to go through mail order. Good luck fellas.

The store I mentioned is actually pretty sweet, I dont see the problem. If you want some specialized thing you just go tru sherrill - not really a big deal.

You wouldn't be in buisiness if you had to go through mail order?? How is that exactly??

It means if I had to mail order my stuff I wouldn't bother, that's just me, that's all.

not Newtown.

it was a reference to most guys going to bucket trucks.yes, there are a lot of bucket babies here but a lot of guys still climb or do both.i'd rather climb or get a crane but sometimes a bucket is a good alternative.

Vermeer in Seymour sells the Geckos.

Newtown have some great guys working there.they will spend all the time with you that you need.Same with Vermeer.they just don't have anything i need.another proeblem is this is a small state but it is a nightmare to get around here because the roads are poorly designed.

i don't mind mail order most of the time.

sometimes you need stuff in a pinch.last weeki i needed to climb 11 trees on a job.the padding in my velcro wraps had rolled over inside and the steel insert was digging into my shinand the leather around the shank was coming unstiched.i was ready to move up to the Geckos but no dice.for $400 and and hour drive, if i'm lucky,i want exactly what i want.

it worked out with the new angled velcro wraps but it's still annoying.guys that don't do tree work ordering out of a catalog for guys that do.####s does that with guns, that is why i never shop there.Cabelas is starting to do it as well.damn corporate America

if you drive to mayer you might as well stop at woodmans. cause you gonna be hungry after that long ass haul from ct. lol. 45 min ride for me!

ive boughten from shelter but i am in the midst of having a problem solved from there. (remember them komet spikes i bought?) anyway once problem is solved i might put another dollar in their pocket but not right now. ive been in their shop though and the do have the gear you might be looking for. call ahead though, just in case. you are driving from down that way.

i don't mind the drive if they have a good selection.

is Woodman's a eatery of some sort?

please tell me it ain't in Pebidy!

I've done some business with Muench, they are alright but they've had to scale back quite a bit in the last year or two. I still go to them for my pesticides, and smaller diameter ropes, plus various other things, but for newer technology they aren't the ones to talk to. However they are one of the VERY few companies around that will work on sprayers, and actually fix them! Steve has always been good to me when I take my tanker in there. They also sell Bandit, Rayco, and Timberwolf, not to mention Stihl saws and Husky. Pete will usually cut a break on price. For the newer technology of climbing and rigging gear I normally just go through the internet. They used to have a TON of cabling and lightning protection supplies, but now not as much.

I will say this though, the Lesco in Brookfield is cutting deals with any licensed arborists on chemicals. I think it was some type of corporate order to bring in more tree companies.

Also, for Newtown Power, I went in there once or twice, never again. I went in to price out a couple of things last year... nothing crazy, just in the neighborhood and wanted to check them out. Wanted a big blower with an 8 HP Briggs, they wanted 1K... the guys who I have been using for YEARS sold it to me for $750 + tax and gave me a $50 rebate card.

if u wait a while park saw in palmer (stihl and husky)is opening a big saw shop... im good friends with the salesman so hes gonna be putting together a nice climbing selection just off exit 8 on the mass pike... and we might be gettin a casino too so if u dont spend enough at the saw shop the indians will take all your money at the card table
