I am looking to buy a 24" bar for my 371xp. It turns out that the factory where cannon bars are made is actually only 15 minutes from my house and several dealers in my area stock them. I know they are well made bars but my question is are they worth the cost premium over other bars like Husqvarna or Orgeon? They are basically 1.5 times the price of the other bars, will they last 1.5 times as long as these other bars. Any opinions would be great.

I think the consensus that though well made, they are heavy and the bar of choice if you are looking for something 42"+. But otherwise, find another bar. To me, the Oregon (manufactures most Hsq bars) are well enough made to be a cost-effective choice. I have a few Sugi's that have lasted very well and are light. Stihl bars are durable as well, but you pay a premium for the name.

get ahold of terry landrum and get a total super bar for it,,, I made a thread about the one I put on my 603 solo,, they hold up very well from what I hear and are a good price

There weight is no significance when compared to similar bars. i have many cannon, tsumura's etc....... the cannons have no noticable weight over the tsumuras. Sure there a bit heavier then the laminate bars but that's a given and really nothing to whine about. Don't listen to sawtroll. He is in norway and has probably never even seen a cannon let alone hold or use one. He's probably just got a manual he reads on them. They are well worth the money and when you think about it somebody would just be plain stupid not to buy them especially when you live so close you can get a deal on them. I went into the dealer and was planning to buy a husky branded 16" bar but when i saw the $48 on that bar and the $70 price on the cannon i figured it was worth it. I got cannons that are old school and they still work perfect. Also got some tsumuras that are old school and still work perfect.

i have a 36" cannon that feels lighter then a 33" oregon. i would weigh them but i'm much to lazy the pull the oregon off the saw. i have a couple 36" oregons that are noticeably heavier then both the 36" cannon and tsumura.

I would take the Cannon or a Tsumura over a Oregon or Husqvarna bar any day! I have a 28" Cannon, and a 33" Tsumura Light and Tough for my Simonized 372 XPW, and they are both awesome bars, very well made.

If you can buy a Cannon, Tsurmura, or Sugihara bar at 1.5 times price of Oregon, Husky etc. go in with both feet. Our fellers/fallers use either Sugis or Tsurmuras & they seem to last up to 3 times longer than Oem or Oregon bars, this on rotation of up to 10 saws, with 20 to 48 inch length. Here the cost is approx. 2 to2.5 times price of Oregon etc. but the reliability of production is also a factor we have yet to have a bad or faulty one. not having to remove paint, crap etc. from groove, oil hole, etc. is also, a bonus. For every/all day cutting, IMO there is no better ( stoops low to avoid incoming) Can not buy Total so can not comment.

I do not know the brand cannon before coming to this forum. What's funny is that the first time I inquired to buy a Cannon bar, I realized that the only seller in France was a very small shop (they do not even sell saws, only bars, chains, axes, clothing and footwear) that had just opened two weeks ago. And coincidentally, this shop is 3 miles from home! When I went there, the seller (a very pretty girl) told me I was the first to buy one. It was I who told them that the Cannon bars had a very good reputation.

And since even my colleagues are impressed. All other bars have burrs we need to grind after a few weeks of work. Except Cannon bars. Amazing quality! More expensive than Oregon, but the same price as Stihl Rollo ES in France.

In addition, as the manufacturer is near you do not hesitate. Not only do you give work to people from your country, and Cannon agrees to repair the damaged bars!

Cannon bars are very good long lasting steel, I would recommend them for milling as they hold up better than Oregon which is very soft. The only problem is the weight. All the Cannon's I have weighed were a bit heavier than Oregon and almost the same as the Solid Tsumura bars.

I'm a Big Advocate of buying locally made whenever possible. The Cannon bars are well noted for their superior metallurgy, longevity, and customer service.
