just for fun. both 16" .058 3/8's bars. i may build up the motivation to weigh 36" cannon/oregon bars in a bit but not now. the prolite is brand new and the cannon has alot more use on it then anyone would think. i swear the paint just doesn't wear off. oh and no i did not rig this comparison. these are genuine weights.

oregon prolite at 2lbs even

cannon super bar at 1.953

put that in your pipe and smoke it ;)

a lose for the cannon here. these are some of my older bars i had hanging on the wall. figured what the hell may as well weight them. my newer bars are on saws and i'm to lazy to pull them off today so that's the way it goes. these are all around the same year bars. all 36" .058 3/8's.

tsumura comes in at 5.807

cannon comes in at a wopping 5.992. this bar is a bit taller then the tsumura and oregon though. also has a larger tip.

oregon comes in for the win at 5.159

there is a bit of a difference but anyone who is gonna complain about these small differences needs to man up and grow a pair ;)

Thanks Westcoaster for all the bar weight measurements, that's helpful. I think when you get into the 36" length that the weight is not an important issue when it's that close. The cannon bar may be stiffer with the extra weight and for something like milling that would be great. I actually just ordered up a Tsumura Lighweight 24" bar from the chainsaw guy, from what I hear the metal is of similar quality and I can support a local dealer this way. I am gonna give that a shot because even with shipping from Vancouver Island it still comes in cheaper than the standard Cannon bar. I will get a cannon bar as well too though soon and compare them, I need a 20" bar for one of my saws so I may go with cannon when I get that.

Check the weight before you buy one!

C'mon Niko,

a Berserker like you should be able to hold a 7 cube in each hand and wield them around like feathers.

Cannons are damned fine bars, some of Baileys 'Woodland Pros' are made by Cannon too.

Personally I prefer Tsumura, but when you need a big one, or a custom, where else can you go?

Cannon are lighter than the same length stihl ES bars.
All this weight stuff is funny. I'm not sure where people get their info. Every Cannon bar that I have weighed has been a couple ounces LIGHTER than the comparable Oregon bar.

I have seen a few posts to that effect lately, so the ol' accepted "truth" of Cannon being the heavyweights among bars may no longer be true - at least not with all their bar models.

I would still want to make sure before I bought one though, as bar weights matter more than many (want to) believe - depending on the intended use of course.

A lot of that comes from the Cannon's having a bigger belly in the bar. On longer bars that is a big deal in keeping the chain on. Like them as long bars since they're stiffer and a bigger belly.

Howdy,
Myself, and 3 other Bailey's ex-pats that were left in Laytonville after Bailey's moved to Woodland have started a new company with some of the old salt. We've got a banner at the top of the page and a forum down below. Since we have the Lucas Mill contract for North America now, we're leaning towards the portable mill genre, We'll be loading our site with Forestry, and Arborist's Supplies as we go.
Regards
Gregg

I think I may soon be a Cannon fan :)

Nice 346, spikes, and muffler. Is that a skip chain on 16" bar?

it is but that's cause i broke that chain down from a larger loop i had. i'm running LGX on that bar currently and it ain't on the 346 anymore. went to a 550 and sold my bro the 346 ;)
