You are quite right, I was surprized how it opened up in the cut and pulled great. I like it. Has a sweet power band indeed. Its the first one I've ever had a chance to play with and I'm like dayummmmmmm nice cutting saw.

Stihl engineering shining through once again...:spam:

So how does it compare to a 260 or 5100 in power to you Thall?

Mine did loosen up a bit after it broke in, but now nearly as much as the 441 and 660 did.

260 won't touch it, the 5100 may have some trouble in bigger wood with this saw. This saw pulls great, I was pushing on it and it kept right on. Mind you now, its cutting with a brand new cylinder and piston. As it breaks in I'll toss it up side my 5100 and see how they compare. I'm really impressed the pull power this little saw puts out, nice power band indeed..

This really amazes me Tom...............when and since the 5100 came out all you hear is how well the saw runs................can't say the same for the 280............wonder why???

I dunno.............you 2 have this love affair goin' on!!!

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaa fact is I like ole Ben alot, I really do. He and me are a perfect match for razzing each other. I think I take it more lighthearted than he does though. He did tell a member to tell me he said to kiss his azz though so hell figured I better let Ben know I'm not up to that task,LOL
Ben and me will razz each other for many more days to come, no doult about that. He's a gamer and by Joe I am too, especaillly for fun and non-sense.

I can't say Rich. Today is the very first time I got a chance to make a bunch of cuts with a 280 and it does pretty durn good. No doult the 5100 is one bad dude with high Rpms and speed but this 280 has alot of grunt, more than I thought it would have. One way to see what each has going from them is to putem side by side and letem rip and I got just the thing, lookie here what I found behind the barn, let the va dittie o's begin, check the log pile I'm gonna soon saw up. Should be fun..

Rumble we will. My big buddy Hoss and me are gonna stettle the 090-880 war once and for all in that pile of logs. His 090 whopped my new 880 the last time we sawed together, yup I won't deny it. That 090 was bellering across the mountain. We were sawing some big big wood that day. This pile isn't as big, the biggest being maybe 30 inches across. Since that defeat I've been pouting and doctoring on my 880 and done some critical testing as well (sawed a few blocks, lol) and I think I got the forumula now to whip the mighty 090. I've already challenged big Hoss to a duel and he has accepted. So baby its on, were gonna have a blast in those logs. Unlike most Hoss and me saw for pure pleasure and could care less who's saws do what. We merely have a great time running the saws.

(I'm still gonna whip that 090 if its the last thing I do,LOLOL)

Does your 280 have the IEM setup?

Nope its a older version. Story behind how I got that 280. Boy borrowed it from of all people , his Dad. Took it out, the manifold opened up, saw got to screaming, he didn't know any better and kept running it till she fried. He brought in to me and said this saw quit running. I pulled the rope one time and knew right away from that sticky feeling the cylinder was gone. I removed the muffler and showed the boy and he was like ohhhhhhhhhhhh schit. He turned around and bought his Dad a new 361 and I told him if ya wanna sell that 280 I'll give 50.00 bucks for it they way it sits. He said I'll have to show it to my Dad and show him what happened to it first. I was like ok. That was last year. Last week he returned with the 280 and asked me if I still wanted it. So thats where she came from. I don't know how old it is but from the looks of it its been well taken care of though the boy didn't know he should have cut it off when it started acting up.

Where'd ya get that ole boat anchor at. I gave one of those away a few weeks ago to some nut that wanted one. Didn't send him all the parts either just to make him wait, hahahahahahaa

I can't wait for the vids

Hey Tom, how about some pics of the old p&c, specifically the inside of the cylinder.

No problem. I tossed all that in the trash can but I can dig em out and show ya. The piston is cooked bigtime. The manifold had a 1/2 inch split in it. That saw had to be screaming to the high heaven with a leak that big. Surprises me it still ran after the manifold split that bad. Too bad, all the boy had to do was shut it off but he didn't know what was going on until it was too late, it happens all the time.
I'll getcha some pics of the parts and the manifold tomorrow.

Yup yup the log pile is gonna be video heaven. Big Hoss and me are gonna have some fun for sure. That man has 40 chainsaws, all big ones. Gonna be a party for sure..

Yup folks, just make sure your Stihls are shut off and they won't burn up.

Hahahahha, think ya slick dontcha. At 16-17,000 rpms, yup shut them off ASAP or pay the fiddler, better yet just sell him the remains, hehehe

Yup folks, just keep a tack on your Stihls so you know when to shut them off to avoid blowing them up.

Yup you know how those folks are that can't tell when a saw is screaming, I'm sure you know them quite well,:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
