I don't want to bring up a serious question on Goran's MLM (multi level marketing) thread, but don't some of you guys use a small flat (square) file to sharpen your cutters?
I find I can get in there and file the side plate, then file the top plate, and touch up the inside corner in three different steps and get the angles I like.

Mike if you use a chisel bit file you can get in there and with one stroke do the things you suggest you can do in three. What is the advantage?

Goran, I've tried filing with a flat file, a triangle file, and everything else. All your doing is making your tooth more agressive. That might make you rip and tear some soft wood but it isn't smooth cutting, and we all know a smooth cutting chain is a fast cutting chain. If you want some real comparison testing send a couple of these jigs to me or Tom Fales. On second thought, don't bother, I'll stick to my chisel file. Good luck and happy marketing! Dennis

You can't blame the guy for trying his luck. Who knows, for us guys who are just starting to learn about filing outside of the round filing game this might be something.

Tricky!

Mike do you bend the raker out of the way temporarily when you make the inside side plate angle or do you use backslope instead of hook on the sideplate?

My company is a distributor for the Atop Filing Tool, and the files.

Rich, learn how to file with a chisel file. If you can't file use a grinder. At least you know those things work, but don't be the first guy to throw away your money. Dennis

Crofter do not worry about this you already make a better chain than what is being said here, listen to Dennis C he is right , god i think the first time i tried a flat file was 1976 , i was still in school , it worked but not as good as what a good chisel file will get you, and yes i tried the 3 sided files back then to

Good point. I am already in the process of learning this. I have some square ground chain given to me by another AS member. The filing learning curve is next!

There ya go Rich........get a check right out to Dennis G. I'm sure he'll gaurantee you'll be happy and get it to you right away. Like I said, don't Sucker! Dennis

Dennis remember there is a new one born everyday , maybe that was his saying

All they got to do is hire a woman and tell her that she gets half , she find him in no time, money seems to do that to them

Dennis C.

You mentioned having used the goofy file. Doesn't this sound like what this fellow is pedling. I wanted to try one for the hell of it but only place I can find thim is Madsens and they wont take Visa.

Frank

Crofter be very very carefull on that deal , it may not be as good as you may think it is , $20 for a new chain , now you are making money big time

Hey, good deal Chris; I think you should jump on board the ATop Racing chain team Chris. They need a good salesman. You could cover the East Coast. Ya?

Frank

Crofter, a goofy file is flat and has a rounded edge. I was assuming they are talking about a flat file with a square edge, and held in a jig. I could be wrong. The goofy file is a good file for chisel chain. I used them to touch up my work chain for years until they got tough to get. They leave a little bit of a tit in the gullet and for racing chain this should be cleaned out. Try one.
Are you sure Madsens won't take Visa? and are you sure they even have the goofy's? I'am sure I've used my credit card at Madsen's. Try Dennis G..... I'm sure he can get you some, cheap! LOL Dennis
