well im gonna break down and buy a new saw i want a saw in the 4.5cu range. i have done some searching and found that the dolmar ps7300, the husky 575xp,xpg,xpw (i will need an explanation on the different letters) and, the stihl ms460 magnum, now how i use them, i beat my saws like the bad dogs they are (or should be) i cut trees down and up. i hate switching saws and they run when the weathers hot or cold. now that i got that outta the way convince me on one based on that don't mention price i haven't checked i wanna know whats the best then ill judge price, oh yea husky guys i have always run stihls let the battle begin!   :chainsaw:

and just for hahas what about an echo cs-8000 boy this poor saw just might get tore apart :jester:

STIHL STIHL STIHL. I love my 460(Yeah I know, why dont I marry it:dizzy: ) I cant speak for dolmar as I havent run one. But I have run some huskys. And they suck. I have cut some big stuff with that 460. Also, look at the modded 460 video in this section of the forum. Granted he has done some work, but it is a bad dude.

The 7300 is out, little more money you have a 7900 that is better yet and weighs the same.
The 575 is getting mixed reveiws, some love it, some hate it. One guy on here has run it for a year, as you describe, and is just now having problems with it. So I can't talk you out of it.
The 460, well, it's tried, it's true, and it's proven, I have one and love it!!! Others have run the 7900 and swear by it, and it's lighter and moe powerful than the 460. I can't say? But I would forgoe the 7300 myself.

Not a bad saw in the bunch, so there's no clear winner or loser among the choices listed.

-The Echo is built like a tank, with a huge crank from what I understand (NWCS had some thoughts on this saw, if memory serves).

-The Dolmar 7300/7900 are great saws, especially for the price ($600+/- for the 7900, PHO). The 7300 with a muffler mod does quite respectably, running right about with a non-muffler modded 7900.

-The Stihl 460 is a tried-and-true design, and does respectably with the DP muffler cover installed.

-And the Husqvarna 575, well, a number of guys whose opinion seems to be backed with facts have been pleased with that model. Incidentally, XP=normal, XPG=heated handles, XPW=full wrap handle.

Of those saws, I'd take a 7900 (or, I suppose, 7300) as my all-around, all-purpose saw. No adverse comments on durability, at least so far as I have seen or heard. I've been very pleased with my versions of the Dolmars and they also happen to do quite well on power-to-weight ratio comparisons, especially the 7900.

I was also looking at those three: Husky, Dolmar, Stihl. I thought we had good dealers for all three until I started talking to them. The closest shop, and the one I felt most comfortable with, turned out to be a Stihl dealer.

If I would have felt comfortable with the other two dealers, I probably would still be looking at saws.:dizzy:

Good luck.

Flip a coin or put em' in a hat and draw....There would be nothing wrong with either choice...I like the 575.

Its time for you to do some hands on shopping!

Some like the 460, count me in. but I've never had a 575, so I can't comment on it...

Go find one that you like the way it feels in your hands, I think any saw will run like a raped ape in the wood and work for many many years.

I would consider 575 or 441 instead of 460.
The 460 is a proven design, yes. But it's also old now.
The 441 should have MUCH better antivibe, much less fuel consumption
and better air filtration. The 575, beeing a Husky, antivibe and air filtration
is not an issue. I personally think you will cut more wood with those saws than the 460 since you will save time filling up gas and cleaning air filter. Less vibes will make you want to work longer days also. Product development is a good thing. You can also see if you have a Jonsered dealer in your area and grab a 2171 or Husky 372. You won't be dissapointed. The PS7900 is of course a screamer but dealer presence is always an issue with Dolmar.

Take a ride to Little Beaver Brook Stihl in windham ,they will let you run a 441 if they havent sold them all already,As they have demos there. In nearby Brooklyn Curtis power has Dolmar and Husky and they probably have demo saws too. Both are good dealers and have put up with all my questions patiently every time i was there.I dont think you could make a bad decision with Stihl ,Husky,or Dolmar in that size range. The Echo 8000,is a good saw too,I once had one.The power is not there compared to the previous three,However, their durability is well known,Good luck.:)
