Temps been down around zero for a week or more. Stove does fairly well during the day and 'keeps' a fire all night but not useable heat. I have the oil furnace set to around 50 but it still bites my rear when I wake up hearing it roaring. Filled the tank last year at $3.30/gal

You must be in Northern ON.

I am in South/Central ON and last night at last check of the Therm it had just hit -20C at about 10:00pm. Our fire had been out for about 3 days as we had been out and about and couldn't fire sit and the ashes needed to go. So last night the gas furnace ran non stop almost.

The fire is back on a blazin and the furnace is gettin a rest.
All I can say I was stuck in Pearson for 5 hours waiting for my plane I went outside it was -13c and snowing it felt cold, as I just came back from my Honey Moon. I got home and the cold took my breath away -33c all I could think of is dam I have been away for two weeks and my furnace has been running!

We balance the temp with wood and LP, the goal being to refrain unless needed, and lately, the temps have made it necessary. Even the dog was looking at the thermostat lately.

Wow its cold here.2degrees on my thermometer.Fire cant keep cold out with the wind either,20mph. Im going to throw another log on the fire.

Still fighting It

I am still refusing to turn on the Natural gas even as my fingers are freezing in the computer room.!!!!! I have just shut off the areas of my house that don't get used much. As of right now the outdoor temp is 19.3 However if anyone hears of a death in Oklahoma I might be the victim due to the hands of my wife. !!!!!!!!

Living room is 68.9 at this time

Mine has tripped on a couple times now during the night, and today when I got home.

Got the thermostat set at 68, and when it gets in the single digits with the wind howling, sometimes ya get caught with a fresh load just starting up or waiting for the coals to burn down a bit more.

I gotta re-cement my rope seal this week, so I'll be on Propane for several hours...

Y'all know how to bring the pressure!!:D

I gotta do better.

I'm pretty happy, it was -4 temps last night with -28 windchills. I kept the house between 68 and 70 with no propane. Had to load it at 10pm, and 3 am, and 7am, but no propane.

I put 4 big rounds in her at 4:30 this morning, still had some left from the night burn,I wont be home till around 5pm...I'll be suprised if there is anything left by that time.If the stoopid wind would let up,I wouldnt be worried.

...and then second thought, I am going back to where I just came from. Right?

I like Calgary/AB, between business and a college buddy that used to live there and then moved to Cochrane and now back to Ontario, I have been there 5 times.

Thats the way to fight a good fight!!!! Keep it up and we will make it through without using any fuel, I hope.

We left for an early Christmas dinner and it was 15 degrees outside with 25 mph winds. We were gone for about 4 hours and when we came home the back door had blown open and the gas furnace was running wide open. I just about puked. So I too burned some propane.

Wow I thought I had it bad without power for 6 hours:jawdrop: My little quadrafire 1800 had a heck of a time trying to keep up with -2 and 35 mph winds. I was glad when the power finally came back on so I could turn the furnace on and heat the other side of my house:cry:

We usually let the fire die out around 6-7pm, but last night I put wood in till 11:30pm and it made a real difference in our ability to keep the thermal mass warm. 72 degrees in the main part of the house right now and 68 on the kitchen end......no propane today. :givebeer:

My wood hog has kept up very well....A cozy 74 but yes the wood pile is taking a beating.
Give up the oil and propane fella's!

My wood piles are disappearing fast. I thought there is no way I will run out of wood this burning season but the way it looks I will be running out of wood and burning gas by late February.

I wish I didn't have to work for a living. I would just cut wood in the morning, come home have some lunch maybe take a nap by the stove then go back out in the afternoon and do some splitting and stacking. Oh well maybe that will be my schedule in another 30 years.
