I ordered seeds a month or so ago, after carefully following the directions posted by the (Kenya) parks commission and having every seed turn to mush I grabbed a seed and my pocket knife and scratched a thin spot on the hull. Its now 2 weeks later and that one has a 2 inch tall stem with what I had thought should be seed leaves, small and round, but these look like normal leaves about 2x2 inches.
Sorry if off topic, but after loosing 5 of my 10 seeds I finally got one to sprout and am a little psyched about it.
Sometimes it doesn't take much to excite me

Cool!! What are you going to do with a boab in Ohio?

Growing trees is a numbers game.

One of my tree-goals is to climb a Baobab. I LOVE those things!

Can I come climb yours?

I hope you are talking about his tree !!

I have a small Wheeping Hemlock in my back yard that will be a monster some day.
Nick, if you want a nice climb, there is a Greenleaf Beach Tree in an old cemetery here on the Cape. It spans about 50 feet wide, 60 tall. I will post a pic.

Some of them look like this funny thing....I don't know if they are the same kind, though?

rborist, that thing looks like the tree of life at animal kingdom in florida!

There are of course differant species within the genus Adansonia in the Bombacaceae family. In our collection we have A. digitata which has the shorter fat trunk from Africa. And also A. lamerei from Madagascar, the taller skinny one. Very cool trees, would love to see a mature one up close.
Cheers..

ive seen people on national geographic eating the fruit ..the fruit comes in a hard pod and inside are seeds covered in a white citrus tasting , sherbat looking powder its supposed to taste good
