Hi folks,
Long time lurker first time poster. Firstly, cheers for all the excellent posts and the humour that goes with them.
I have been using my Dad's Stihl in the past for limbing and it was fine but I rather have my own saw. I have a few jobs coming up, just clearing up a farm driveway and cleaning up an old Ash in the yard. I was set to purchase a used Stihl myself over the weekend but it was sold out from under me after I agreed a price and was ready to collect. Anyway I was telling this to a friend of mine and he told me he had an old 440EVL which had been sitting in the garage for 10 years as he couldn't get a sprocket for it.
So I am now the proud owner/inheriter ( I love giving classic stuff new life and saving well build stuff from the scrap heap). The chain is okay on it but the bar is well worn. I'd like to get a new sprocket, bar and chain for it. The engine is solid, my buddy had drained the tank and ran the carb dry before hanging it up so there is a lot of life left in the engine. It fired up fine on a fresh tank, the chain break and clutch are good, oiling well too.
So, two questions. 1. Can it take an 18 inch bar?
2. Will the CS 440 parts fit the 440EVL?
A new sprocket, bar and two chains would probably last me 5 years or so, so I'd like to get the consumable selection right. I could turn the bar as there is little wear on the back but it is asymmetrical so I'm worried it might be dangerous. it's best to start with a good set up.
Can anyone give me a link or suggest a company/make that will fit the 440EVL.? I know it's not the most powerful saw in the world compared to the new stuff but I take life at an easy pace so I'm not worried about that. If there is an Echo dealer or an Oregan dealer that ships to Ireland I'd be glad of the details.
Thanks for reading.
