whell here is my thory on stihl saws on bar size. take hte last 2 numbers of hte model number and divide it by 2 and you got the optiomal size bar. for instance 032 = 16" bar 066 = 33" bar. i don't know does it sound about right to you guys.

Hi Andrew, it all depends on your geographical region and tree size. In the East the equation is this: model# divided by 4. ie., 066= 15"- 16" bar, while in Washington State it is model # divided by 1. Thus 066= 66" bar, 090 = 90" bar, however if two 088's are mounted on a double ended Cannon bar, the prefered length is 88 X2= 176" bar. In ordered to verify the Western equation it is best to talk with Rotax Robert as he will be puting a 44 ft. bar on his 400 lb. V8 hotsaw Predator Model 44 Slicer & Dicer.
Hope this helps,
John

i think this is the same for husky:
136 - 18"
340 - 20"
372 - 36"
3120 - 60"

:D

(088 = 44")lol:angel:

Hey Fish, I hear you!!
Also have a 009, and therefore the 4 1/2" too!
Funny thing is that I never have any complaints!!!!!!!!!!!!

why would you wanna run the stihl bars:confused: i dont know if they are better but im sure they are not worth all that effort!!! or are they?

Hi There, to Hell with the 4.5" bar and chain, I just rip it apart with the falling dogs. Can anyone help me find a clutch and side cover for this little saw? I think its a keeper.
John

John, that saw is the rear handle version of a 020 or 020 S. Last made 6-7 years ago. Parts might be readily available. I still have 3 old top handle ones. If you cant find anything, i might part with some old parts, very used though.

I don't know, something about that steel case. You can work with it, ya know? Sand it, weld it, sand it some more and paint it. As nice as plastic is, you can shoot it into molds that metal never dreamed about going, but, you can't do some of the basic things with it, like sand it and paint it.

You said it wolf river mike. Those metal cases are great! I powder coat all my old saws. Ever heard of powder coating? Its baked on and never chips.

How much would a powdercoating run for a large saw? What kind of dissasembly and surface prep is required? Just thinking at some point I might want to spruce up a saw or two.

Can you do it normal colors? :)

A late reply, Yeah I've seen powder coating on gym equipment, deer stands and different things. Never seen a saw powder coated. Sounds neat.

Hey fellas,

You can buy a do it yourself powder coating kit. You need to bake it to cure it though. Make sure your loved one doesn't get upset if you ruin the oven. Or they also sell heating lamps that you can use to cure it.

I'll post some more info as soon as I find it.

P.S. You can send it out to be done also. I don't know how much that costs though. Rotax Robert might have an idea, as he mentioned something about coating the pipes for the predator.

The link is:

Eastwood Hot coat system

The last catalog that I have says it costs 199 for the deluxe kit. Thats not too bad if your going to do a couple of saws I guess. The parts need to withstand 400 F and they need to be clean. The cool thing is that the clean up is easy.
