Ive been working for Bartlett Tree here in Canada for just under a year, I make $20.00 an hour, climb fulltime under a forman, 5 years experience, Arboriculture Diploma, a few other certs aswell. My forman who has almost 10 years experience makes $23.00 and hasn't had a raise in over 18 months. Well he goes in for his review last week 6 months later then then promised he would have it and they tell him he's doing an awesome job but they can't give him a raise due to the economey in the US and due to the fact that other offices down there are only working 3 or 4 days a week. Is this not a load of #### or what? Our crew has the best production numbers at our office and we have worked over 40 hrs a week through this whole recesion. what are your thoughts on this gentlemen? Im wanting to know as im due for a review in 2 months.

$20 would be very good pay here, considering benefits. That's $40k/year, plus plus. Wish i could make that without the headaches of running a business..wanna trade? :blob2:

Count your blessings. i remember working for a big company and getting fixated on the numbers, aching for a bump now and then. In the big picture and in retrospect I got stressed out over a molehill.

20.00 an hour is alot more than unemployment pays. right now i believe every employer with work has got a line of people wanting your job, so until the economy picks back up we just got to bite our tounge and be thankful that we are working at all and still able to provide for our families

Yep.

i got laid off friday and you're #####ing about a wage freeze? :monkey:

be glad you have a job.

While it sucks to not get a raise when promised, the cold truth is be glad you got a good paying job.

I'm flying to the Chicago area Wednesday, almost 900 miles for a job I'm grateful for the opportunity to get. be glad you're in Canada, where Obama's lies have only a ripple effect. :angry2:

Would those be american or canadian dollars?

Does anyone know the current exchange rate? A long time ago it was 80 cents american to $1.00 canadian.

Canadian, I would imagine.

In the summer of 1987 I worked as a laborer on a roadbiulding crew in and around Toronto, I was paid $15.75 hr. along with 10 percent holiday pay. Taking inflation into account that would be well over $35hr. now. Shows how far we have sunk in terms of our living standard.:dizzy:

I'd rather have a frozen wage than no job!

I think gov certs such as cdl and pest still yield a raise but most people already have those.

everyone says be glad you have a job. Well 4-6 months ago I would have said the same thing but our economey here in british columbia hasn't been hit as hard as the US economey. I worked 55 hrs last week and were running all our crews fulltime and still behind in work. It's just discouraging to work everyday when you know in a few months when your due for a raise you can't get it because were an american company and until there offices start to bounce back there is a wage freeze on.

dude i would do your job for fifteen an hour im desperate for work. and now im pissed off after reading your post. stop whining you have a good wage to do something i wouldnt mind doing for free.

ya well move to canada then, tree work slowed down a bit through the winter as it normally does but we were still working 28-35 hrs in january-febuary. If you can't get work from your employer go out on your own time when you should be working and do side jobs, you can't sit on the couch hoping your gonna get called into work, thats what I do when it slows down.
