I saw an interesting video on oil mix ratios. I watched it on TV so I don't have the link, but a gentleman tested 25:1 and 50:1 on a Stihl saw; I think it was an MS261 or similar. He compared temperatures at the exhaust after 3 minutes at idle, after 3 cuts on a ~16" log and after 3 cuts on ~12' logs. In all cases, the saw ran much hotter on 25:1 than 50:1. Engine temperature was as much as 38 degrees hotter at 25:1. The thought was that the 25:1 was effectively making the saw run lean. It also had noticeably less power. I am not sure if such would happen on an MS500i, with its sensors and microprocessors. But running hot was not a good thing. I tend to use 50:1 with Amsoil Saber because Stihl suggests 50:1. I once had a saw that asked for 16:1. I don't think the oil ratio needed depends as much on the saw design as the oil. As long as you have enough oil to create an oil film thick enough to avoid metal-to-metal contact, more oil will not improve lubrication. All it will do it make the saw run hotter and put more oil smoke in the exhaust. Will Saber really allow 100:1? I think it is possible. Many report doing so for years with no problem. But I am not ready to take that step. Oil is cheap compared to damage to my 500i.
Dear Hermio , call me crazy , hardheaded , stubborn. I use high test gas or premium and saber mix at 8 ounces per 2 gallons makes
ratio 32 to 1. I dont have smoke trails and nothing gummed up. I would rather have a little much on oil than not enough. That kinda scares me , i am not doing 16 to 1. or the 100 to 1 no way. When I make 2 cycle oil and gas I mix it up. I am just " old fart school "
thinking. Thanks Buck

Schaeffer's two stroke oil. Series 9000 is the full synthetic. Burns clean, protects excellent!! 3OZ/per gallon. That will give you exactly a 42.7:1 mix. I have three ounces bottles so I mix five at a time. The exact measurement given because you need to know! Have a good one ! 🤣😂
Schaeffers 9000 is a marine oil, which both Husky and Stihl say not to use.

Can't claim to be jaso-fd rated and tc-w3 rated at the same time. 2 totally different formulations and classes of 2 stroke oils. That oil linked would not pass the jaso tests, ie boat oil.
In the first place it is neither TCW3 or JASO FD certified. There is that.
In the second as you well no it's technically impossible to meet both of those standards with the same oil.
This sort of stupidity and dishonesty is why I dislike most of these wonder oil companies like Amsoil, Schaeffers, etc.

You have the wrong oil pictured. The container is marked "for outdoor power equipment." Yes, you posted a marine oil.
Been using the stuff for over 25-years no issues. Clean engine, very minimal wear. MS 462, used professionally, 15-months in still screaming. To each his own.

I highlighted the pertinent information. Can't claim to meet both standards. Which they clearly state off their website, they do.

You said 9000. Now your saying something different.
It matters not as the second oil is boat oil too.

I see comments like thes often. How do you know the engine was clean internally? Did you tear it down? Did you measure clearances to ascertain it showed minimal wear?
A pro saw running any proper air cooled oil, which Schaeffers is not, should last 15 months in the hands of a logger and longer in the hands of a tree monkey.

It had a leaky base gasket. Yes, I tore it down. Nicely lubed crank, piston wash perfect, cylinder and piston showed no scratches or imperfections. No, I didn't measure, saw runs like a ***** ape!

I ran schaffers for a few years through three of my saws mixed at 40-1 and I tore two of them down and I can confirm it burns clean and leaves a decent oil coating...not as coated as vp or red armor but every thing was clean and looked great...the only reason I stopped using it was the price

The price is obscene for a marine oil.

My expiereance with Schaeffers is in lawnboy mowers which spec about marine oil. I got the stuff insane at Napa cheap. After using a quart of it is observed it stinks like all marine oils do0, it spoiled out the exhaust more than other marine oils I used in the same mower and it burned no cleaner either. Maybe worse in the cleanliness department .
