"Been reading much of the same about the Echo's...I've heard great things about the Timber Wolf."

I loaned my Timberwolf out couple of days ago, guy comes back yesterday with a HUGE smile on his face. He was super-impressed with that saw, and knows his way around this stuff pretty good.
The only thing I don't know at the moment about that chassis (CS-590/600P/620P) is how well they will last in long term service. I hope that they do as well as the other Echo power equipment I have here, then they will be a "home-run" all the way around.....Cliff

Hey guys,
Well I've made up my mind to add ONE LAST saw to my outfit of a limbing saw & 3 midrange runners.
I would like to get 1 solid 70-80cc saw.
I'm definitely going buy a used one & I'm capping myself @ $475-500.

My luck has been close this week on Craigslist, but obviously not swift enough...here's some examples;

1. Sachs Dolmar 143 for $100...drug my feet and I guy beat me by an hour...he turns around and lists it back on CL for $600!! :rolleyes:
2. Stihl MS460 that's been straight gassed for $200...missed by an hour...guys driving from Chattanooga to ATLANTA...although I had the choice of buying it fer $350 and he'd call the guy and tell him to get lost! NOT!!:nofunny:
3. Stihl 026 needs choke switch $80...guy is rather iffy and says he must go to bed(it's 6pm) offered the guy $120 but he gave his "word" to this "nice sounding feller"...after we hang-up he relist ze saw for $120!:confused:

Anyway back to the main topic...I'm looking close at these suspects "Stihl 038 Mag,044, MS 460 , 372 Husky, 7900 Dolmar."

Any thoughts or suggestion from you guys?

I got a brand new Makita 6401 from Home Depot Rental that had the chain on backwards. Kid salesman thought something was wrong with the saw, and sold it to me for $150. Murph put in a Mahle 79cc P/C for me because I didn't have a work bench at the time. Saw is incredible! Cut everything big with it with ease! And some small stuff too! Amazing power. No problems with the saw in 4 years! And I've cut some wood with it!!!

This is a bigger saw than you were looking for, but noticing that you are in North Alabama...

There is an MS660 on Craigslist that is advertised for $500

Been looking @ that option for a while...the best deal I came across was a Makita 6401 for $215 plus tax...had other $$$stuff holding me back then though...

I know this is an old thread. But I really like my Stihl MS 500i. I don't work on my own saws, so I don't care that it may require a dealer to work on it. But it is the least fatiguing saw I have owned, in that it is light, has low vibration and cuts like a banshee. I cut through 12" seasoned white oak rounds in less than 5 seconds, and about 10 seconds through 18" red oak. Chain is Stihl RS (yellow label). Yes, ported saws are faster. But for a stock saw, the MS500i is great.
