.... it's quite old. ...., MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY

Well, I guess that depends on your definition of "quite old". Western Germany is probably not a term you'd find before about 1946 or so.

Ox-Head is the official supplier of axes for the Stihl Timbersports Series

Where did you get this information? I've been doing this sport over ten years and haven't seen an ox-head yet. Maybe Jaimie Cogar, Mike Slingerland or Mike Eash can chime in on this, they compete in the series. They are on this site. I've seen them advertised, but never actually being used. BTW I go to 30 contests a year. Do you chop edrichey?

Some folks on this board might take exception to ANY kind of "old" being applied to something that is about the same age as they are. :D

Yup, and I'm going to check them out on Sunday. Turns out, that store is about a half hour from my house, I never knew! Thanks for the link edritchey.

I was told that the "competition axes" had to be sharpened before each use or something?

And was told I would not want to use one for regular ax work for some reason?

This was years ago and I forget the details. Is this information correct?
(Maybe it was just the high price or something...)

Anyway they sure do seem to work good in the shows!

Its was "western" or "west germany" until the wall came down in 199x.... Like Regan, I forget when that happened

You haven't swung an axe till you've tried Jamie's trainer/ rigging/ serraded/ splitting maul..... Did I miss anything? I don't know what it weighs but I know it has a big hunk of metal wedge that is as big as the top of the axe. And on block #3 and your 9th and 10th chip line its gets real heavy...
