I finished the job today. It took 2 labor days. We got cut short on Tuesday because of rain and finshed up thursday morning. We got it done faster then we thought we would. Here ar a few pics. We took around 45 yards of chips away. Not to bad for th hills involved. I gave the pole saw a work out. I had put 4 tanks of gas threw it by 7:30 am one morning. One worker learned a valuable lesson. Don;t drinbk milk before a hard da of work. He was puking at 7am. He recovered nicely and worked the rest of he day.

I don't have any befor pics but this whole hillside was covered with 8-12ft high growth. It was so thick you couldn't walk through it. I bid the job at $10,200 So it came out pretty good. A couple other people bid it at 30k and 20k. I figure they didn't want the job. I paid out $1800 in labor. It was a good job even though it was crappy work.

That turned out well. What are their plans to maintain it now? That looks like it will be overgrown by next summer unless they do something now. It looks like they'll need to do something to prevent runoff if they don't get some kind of vegetation on it.

Were those old railroad ties from a retaining wall or were they just dumped there?

Scott,

Nice job, looks great. Paying 1800 in labor leaves you with a nice bit of change in your pocket. Looks good, i am going go take your pole saw advicce and give that a shot. We start a job very similar to that on Monday, except there is no water at the bottom.

I can see where that would suck but they would not pay 1200.00
for that here and that sucks worse. I would be running up that hill for the pay you received well actually I would have stacked it on my bass boat and loaded it at boat ramp or level area.

That was off of Ladue road in St. Louis. I did the work. They are going to build another wall behind the concrete one. The wall is actually pushing out and the fill the house is on is moving down the hill. I have sold the woman on the idea of me coming back once a year to cut the growth with a brush saw. I told her she would keep the view and the growth would help with erosion. She wanted the stub's left high so the root base would help help keep the dirt on the hill. Now she wants me to come back this fall and prune and deadwood every tree in here yard. Very nice lady and she is loaded and doesn't mind paying for work as long as it's done right and in a timely manner.

Real good money for that job.....good for you, those guys bidding 30k are out of their minds though, come on 20k for a days worth of ground cutting...robbery

nice work, looks really clean

I doubt you have seen my "truck". I am a very small part time operation. I just have a 1-ton dodge with a home made chipper box. It's usually just my dad and I unless we get a bigger job like this then I call people to help. I am mainly a word of mouth tree person. Usually when I wok for someone they always call back an never ask for a price they just say do it. I do all the cutting an dad runs the chipper on most jobs. I never have a crew on the job by themselves. I'm not big enough for that. It helps out with the little old ladys having dad there. He is retired a very hard worker and they love to see that. It's funny because I here them say I can't believe your out here doing this at your age. Truth is he likes to do it. If I told most people we work for that he has a nice pension and is worth more then them they would freak. He's just a worker plain and simple. Thanks for the comments.

I know a guy like that! But the rest of the story is: he makes the young guys around him look like punks by working circles around them.

good for you for being lucky enough to work with your dad.
