Got a half gallon of husk premium mix oil and a couple bottles of Mobile mx2t, any problem blending the two together? expert opinions only need apply here. Thnx Bman

I add about 1/2 ounce of Stihl oil to the MX2T when I mix fuel to give it a good tint of green. otherwise I cant tell my mixed gas from straight gas. Besides, its like cheap insurance by adding a little extra oil for lube.

I was once told not to mix synthetic oil with non syn oil, because the oil does not fuse together, the synthetic oil will sit on top of the regular oil and somehow be bad for the engine. If you dont have problems than keep on doing it your way I suppose.

IMHO, as long as you keep the types of oil to its' own type (synthetic to synthetic and non syn. to non syn.) you shouldn't have any problems. Back in my racing days (100cc yamahas and Mac B95's) we used to mix oils all the time with no performance problems. Oldsaw has a great point on the little extra mix for the cheap insurance - currently the same route I use on all my saws.

I wouldnt mix to differant oils even if the used the same base. If you want color for your mx2t buy your slef some oil soluble dye. I have a few sources for it.

But isn't that dye exspensive?

I would rather swpend the extra money than mix. In the OLD days mixing was a quick way to foul a plug. Newer stuff claim to be compatable but why even think about doing that? My vote is to NOT mix.

And I currently DON'T mix different oils in my saws. If you were doing hotsaw racing - then i might try it. No good reason TO mix different oils...especially for todays oils and saws being so good.

I just mix the Stihl oil to gain the greenish tint, until I run out of it, then I'm gonna get some green or red dye and use that.

Stihl oil is non synthetic?? Dosen't say anything on the bottle about it. Mobil is. At 50:1 with Stihl oil the color throws me off every time I fill up my tank. I always think, shouldn't that be darker. I realize not many people run 50:1,but that is what they recomend and more oil only lowers octane. Plus if it blows up I say I was using your oil with your recommende mix rate. With 2 stroke dirtbikes they say rebuild every 10 hours anyway. No point in crying about a saw that blows up after 500.

Ben - a question for you....

A few years ago I mixed a few odds & end bits of 2 cycle oil. To my surprise, the stuff gave off a powerful ammonia smell. Obviously, I did not use it since it would have been very corrosive. What could have caused that type of reaction? Did one of the components have ammonium nitrate detergent, or was something actually synthesised by my mad scientist chemistry experiment? Or was one a castor base, and the nitrogen was decomposed to ammonia?

Never do that again...

Sylvatica,TCw3 oils use a amonia based dispersent.

Ashless oils are not an ammonia based dispersant.

Many ashless detergents are manufactured from organic nitrogen compounds like (Hydrazine).

Hydrazine's are clear, colorless liquids with an ammonia-like odor but are NOT ammonia. Hydrazine is far more dangerous to sniff than ammonia!!!!! There are many kinds of hydrazine compounds, including hydrazine, 1,1-dimethylhydrazine, and 1,2-dimethylhydrazine. Small amounts of hydrazine occur naturally in plants. Most hydrazines are manufactured for use as rocket propellants and fuels, boiler water treatments, chemical reactants, medicines, and in cancer research. Hydrazines are highly reactive and easily catch fire.

You wouldn't be able to sniff Hydrazine because it is pyroforic - Goes POOF when it hits the outside air. VERY dangerous and I wouldn't want to be near it when it does go poofta!

My scientific analysis

I mixed some of the mx2t with the husky oil and got no odors. Shook it up and it mixed such that there was no visible seperation. Put some in a small jar and let stand a few days. No visible seperation. Also mixed some of the blended juice with fuel and observed no seperation after 2 days as well. Fueled the saw and milled two logs. Saw ran like a raped ape.Hmmm
