For regular spur use i'll use WesCo's ,, Redwings and red dogs have nothing on these boots, These are top of the line,,,,However rarely will i pull these out my everyday boot is very similar to nick's I have a pair of Asolo gore tex hikers;;They have just enough heel to them so that i don't have probs wearing spurs here either, just not all day b/c they don't have the steel shank..I always use Sierra Trading Post for my hiking boot needs, I seem to find some great buys there...

Whites, roughout leather, 10" tops, triple sole, block heel corks. The best removal boot period. You can go out any limb on the rainiest of days. Very important, I think one will need to watch ones foot placement. Mine should be done 5 weeks. Pricey, 465.00.

I have a pair of Carolinas and I'm loving them. The sole gets stuck in tight crotches sometimes, but no more than I think any other boot does. Gotta go with the steel toe though....the minute you don't you'll do something stupid. Got them from Davidson shoe outlet...www.shoestoboot.com No shipping charges if your order is more than $75. I though it was a pretty good deal, and they actually carry womens work shoes, which was nice for me.

I don't think you can have steel, leather, and canvas and be called lightweight. If weight is a factor, you will be pleasanlty suprised at what your options are!

Take a look at the photo Nick. These are actually lighter than your run of the mill hiking boots and have alot better ankle support.:Monkey:

Hold on, I will go and check.

I just held a jungle boot in one hand and a Nike hiking boot in the other. The jungle boot is definately lighter. And they are made to Military Specifications and will out last standard hiking boots 4 to 1. I know there are some ex GI's on here, back me up on this one guys. LOL:Monkey:

I've posted this on here before about boots. For standing in hooks, any boot made for crampon use is the way to go. I've got Wesco's and Red Wings and they are very good, but the LaSportiva's are the way to go. The sole is stiff for front pointing in crampons but not totally inflexible. The ankle support is second to none and they have so much more padding than any logger boot. The area between the heel and front part is sized just right to put a lock on the iron. These things wear like iron and are waterproof to boot!

Hey Dan, I have a couple of pairs of LaSportiva Makalu's from REI and Mountain Gear. I think the updated versions are called Glaciers. I bought these boots originally for slogging up Mt. Ranier, Baker, Hood and St. Helens and any other cold place. I've got another pair of Tecnica's that work pretty good too. Several climbers in Atlanta wear the same boots and swear by them. They footlock good too.

Hey Bradley, where do you get to use your crampons in Atlanta? Dont they get peeved if you try and scale Stone Mountain after a ice storm? Just messin with ya dude.

Where can I get good climbing boots for my small (size 14) foot? I like the Red Dawg climber, but I havent found them offered in my size.

Anybody here use LaSportiva?

I'm going to need to reman. my REI boots soon and will need something to replace them while out.

I have one buddy that loves the LA Lohotse

cheap old stihl loggers are what im back too after trying all sorts of fancy foot wear........:blob2:

Im surprised that some of you guys that are so adamant about ppe,are wearing hiking shoes and water shoes doing tree work.I understand they are comfortable and lightweight, but it just doesnt seem like they would be as safe as leather steel toed workboots.Ive had to many logs and branchs fall on my toes to ever think of wearing anything but steel toe.Does osha have a standard for footwear?

All ANSI talks to is an ankel high boot.

If I could find a safety shoo that climbed as good as my mountain boot, I would definetly use it. I've tried work boots and they do not give the same purchace on nubs and bumps that a climbing boot does.

Hurting toes because you dropped a log on them is surely unsafe.

Hurting face because you slipped on a branch while out on a precarious limb walk and slammed in the trunk while wearing steel toed shoes is also unsafe.

I'll keep my hikers!

Oh yeah!!!! Nice pic of the Best Ranger Comp. Prusik climb event. Been there done that one. I think I will stick with a footlock with a prusik cord and a doubled over climb line on this next ITCC comp in Denver come June. Oh by the way I cant place the Rangers face but that was definately taken on Malvesty field on Ft Benning Ga.
