What are these things I see baileys has them do they have a purpose other than looking really cool?

The bow bar is used to buck logs into desired lengths. they are very dangerous because of the heightened chance of kick back. an experienced user can buck logs much quicker than with a traditional bar, because the chance of the bow binding in the wood is minimal due to the bar being thin. Also, the wood closes in on itself rather than the bar. As an added benefit, the user does not have to bend over as far as with a traditional bar. But be warned, they can be extremely dangerous because of the kickback factor!

The bows are great, but as mentioned the kickback factor is something you should be very careful of, there is little room for an error. The major thing is that you have to keep that spur dug into the wood before you let the front of the bow touch anything, and don't let it snag anything other than the log you are cutting. As far as the clearing guides, they are for clearing fire lines and cutting christmas trees and such, but I have no idea how to safely use one,'

What saws you got? I highly recommend at least 3.7 cubes unless its one of the old 12" bows...the Baileys ones are made by East texas bow Mfg. Real nice metal to judge by the guards I got from them. I also like the idea of having a chainbrake with a bow saw...a lot. If you watch ebay you may find a real nice bow and get it cheaper than Baileys...just make sure it fits your application. You can always get spurs or chain guards for it if you happen upon one which lacks them. Just make sure you don't run one without them.
