No they are made all over the place now Germany, China, Brazil, Japan and US
The saws here are mostly Va. Beach. But, yeah they have plants everywhere.

The Mtronic saws are programmable , but it is beyond most of us.The Stihl dealerships I deal with always started every new adjustable carb saw before it went across the counter to the buyer even the later ones with the limiter caps. These dealerships were not the most experienced shops we had here but at least they had a tech to tune a saw. We are located at sea level and they would retune the carbs to the rich side. One of my newest MS440`S had the H limiter pulled and the needle set richer right at the service counter. That dealer tuned rich as a habit to prevent so many lean damaged saws from coming back. I do not know if the new M tronic saw can be set up that way and I am not around the dealerships as much as I was back when all saws had carbs that could be tuned, even the ones with just the L adjustable side along with the LA setting. Set at a reasonable idle so that the chain was not spinning at idle like so many Husqvarna`s were at that time.
Not sure what you are saying here. You indicated that you don't start a saw before selling because when it leaves the factory there is nothing that needs to be adjusted and I replied that factory setting might work for an autotune saw (they are supposed to self adjust for elevation, temp, etc.) but some areas where the elevation and climate are different from the factory location, carbs would need some adjustment.Nothing to do with auto tune. Every saw. Every saw.
As a percentage we don't sell many Mtronics. The plain Jane saws all have limiters and they come from the factory hard against the limiter. Most around here are made pretty much at sea level. Not sure the elevation of the Va Beach plant but can't be much. Not sure what you are saying here. Been to the factory twice, did Gold school at Virginia Beach. Yes, what you say is true about what they do at the factory. Most are just fine, but not always. A couple a year. But I will still check them all. Got to talk to the customer about operation anyway. I think it shows we care. Seems to have increased business over the years.EVERY Stihl saw is ran at the factory in Va Beach. It is connected to an external fuel source, put in an enclosure, and the door shut. The saw idled, revved up, idled revved up for several minutes. Everything is computer monitored. Temp, fuel consumption, emissions, ..
The carb adjustments are made with robotic arms according to whatever the computer says. If the saw passes it is cooled down and put in a box with the limiters fixed where the program says to fix them and shipped out. There is a long row of these test/setup enclosures.
No, we don't start them again unless asked to. There is nothing to adjust.
Obviously, if you are replacing a bad carb with one that the limiters either are not engaged or it never had them it is a different story.
I was curious myself because I have never sold a new saw. I just fix stuff. So, I asked one of our Techs who has done the three day deal at Va Beach.

We had a bunch of FS-38's that came in lean this past spring. Had to trim that external limiter or just over power it with a big handled screw driver. Assume the factory machine got off some how.
But, I am in a different world. I will put it in a log and get it up to operating temp before I tune anything that has been rebuilt, new carb, or just the owner screwing with it.
Can't hardly do that with a new saw.
But, I suspect you know what you are listening for.
Definitely on the hearing. But I doubt I am telling you anything new. We know what it needs to sound like to still have power up top in the wood.We had a bunch of FS-38's that came in lean this past spring.
