A verbal contract is worth the paper it is written on.

If he takes you to court, counter sue for lost time.

For me the extra $100 would not be worth the aggravation. I'd pay him off and tell him it was the last time I would work him.

I do a few of my own jobs every year, I'm never the lowest bidder. I have a few clients that I will not call because i know they feel that they should get the lions share of the take. "Hey Joe, how much do you want for a half day in eastern franklin?" "As much as i can get."

You offered 1400, he turned it down, sounds like he worked for free to me. F*** him, I've had to take the hard stance on some sh** in the past. You just gotta do it, tell em to pound sand if he won't accept the 1400 you offered and move on.

I doubt any court will award much with no contract, and surely not $ 1400. Shouldn't go to that though.

Nothing is out of the question. Sure, we may team up... I may even groundie for you but it would be my job and I would be in charge of the business negotiations. I keep all avenues open for business and never burn bridges.

I have contracted many climbers. A few from this site. I mostly leave them alone to do their work while I move on to another job and do my thing. Sometimes we have worked together. Still it is understood that they are servicing my clients and what I pay them is pre established before a saw is ever fired up. I have never had any problems with contract climbers. They can be a great asset when you have more business than you can handle.

I have done work with these guys before..and they have been expensive..but they do do good work..really good work..now I'm not questioning this guys ability to do work..I have been around a lot of climbers..and this guy might be the best I've seen..but in the course of our argument..he lectured me about 20 other different things he thought I did wrong..etc..I was like Joe..if you're so good..why am I gettting alot of work..and you arent? I'm bidding low..but the economy around here wont support premium prices like it used to..theres more competition in this area than ever before..and customers are calling 5 to 10 or more outfits to get estimates and the best price. If we go to court..and the judge asks me why I havent paid him..I'm gonna tell him I offered cash to him in person but he refused to take $100 less..I think the judge is going to laugh and tell him to get over it..I mean..if this guy wants to spend $1000 to get a $100..let him..hes got a major ego problem...I think hes after to prove a point that hes Joe Keller and what he says is the law..and I'm gonna be like well at Accurate Tree Service(my company) Joe Keller gets what I pay him or he can shove it up his a:censored: and keep walking..

As far as being more than I climber, I am certainly more than that but sometimes miss the days when I could just climb and worry about little else. If I could have someone handle the sales and business and me just climb I would be a happy camper. Doesn't work that way though does it?

I don't trip anymore either ,I have kids and you need a entire weekend for that , I have had my fun in the past but now I walk a straight line , I am all talk at this point reminiscent of the fun from my teenage yrs.

Oh thats our motto but I haven't the gusto for that lifestyle anymore , instead I go shopping at the depot if I'm lucky enjoy BED BATH AND BEYOND on Sundays watch Dorah 24/7 and rub my wifes bunion covered feet if I want to EVER get "lucky" and to wash all that down tomorrow I'm gonna wash the house , you got it the whole :censored: house ...

Hey WM, I read this from start to finish but I couldnt figure out how equal 1/3 shares makes $1500 for them and $500 for you. I probably missed something in translation.

For this deal, I think you are doing the right thing.

For future deals, write it down. Send em an email with all the details and away you go.
