I’m in the same boat…do i buy a 400 now, or wait however long for the 400.1 to show up in the states. Bonus points towards the 400 that the 362R’s wrap handle, side cover, and dogs will fit right onto the 400. Then swap in an HO oil pump. Currently the 400.1 doesn’t have a full wrap handle option. That’s not to say that stihl won’t design one for it, but i think that if stihl ever did manufacture a full wrap handle for the saw, it would have been during their initial design and development of it.
The 400 doesn’t have a heated handle. The 400.1 is available with the arctic package…but not in the US.
I’m not in “need” of a 400 or 400.1, but i would like to eventually get one or the other sooner than later. I can easily make do with my current 362R and 660. I would like a saw with a smidge more power than my 362, so that’s why i’m looking at the 400 series. I know the 400 has more power, but since i already have a 660, i can always use that saw instead. I’m more inclined to go after the 400.1 since it’s lighter weight.
As for the 440 and 441 saws…i never used a 441, but i did buy a brand new MS440 Magnum when stihl rereleased them for the very last time in the US. I was thoroughly underwhelmed with that saw. I bucked up about 4 cords of wood with it and then promptly sold it on craigslist (which was an absolute hilarious story in itself). I then went back to my deal and bought a new 362R and 660R and all was right in my world again.
