I've been looking around for quite a while for a service station that sells gasoline without 10% ethanol. Here in Massachusetts, I cannot find a single distributor of non-ethanol gasoline. Other than buying 5 gallons from VP for $100, is there any way to get gasoline without ethanol in it anymore?

What are they using for AV-gas down there (check the small fields and ask)? Or tagged farm gas? Just a thought. Been wondering if theres a way to 'air' the alcohol out? Dunno.

My 0.02$ fer the afternoon :)

try Shell

around here it seems like Shell or BP gas stations have higher octage gas without ethanol. Around here Casey's only have 87 no ethanol or 89 10% ethanol. hope that helps. i don't like ethanol fuel either

Its all got ethanol in mass, although I don't know about aviation or the alterantives. Rural or urban is not the driving force, its state mandated, now that they can't cut it with MBTE.

Hey Bob, how are ya? This is Jeff H From MLN. Just got my Husky 61 back up and going. Just moved to NH, and have not found any non-ethanol fuel yet...well, there is the 110 octane race fuel at the pump.....

I run 100LL (av gas) and Stihl oil in all my 2 cycle equipment. They start better, run cleaner. might even get some lubrication from the lead. Av gas evaporates clean. That is expecially good for equipment that sits between uses. Carbs and jets remain clean.

I have been running this way for 7 years and all the engines are still like new.

I don't think the AV gas has ethanol

it would be better than the stuff w/ethanol and cheaper than your price on VP which seems way out of line to me ????? :monkey:

Av gas prices

The fuel price varies quite a bit based on location, competition, and services provided by the FBO (Fixed Base Operator).

Here is a link to a popular website that lists fuel prices by your location;

http://www.airnav.com/fuel/

$3.50 to $4.38 in my area.

I guess if I was going to advance the timing a bit I'd want to run the 100 octane fuel. For now, I'd like to try to get some 90 or 92 octane unleaded gasoline without ethanol. I think I'd get more power out of the lower octane fuel with the way my saws are set up now.

By the way, does all AVGAS have lead?

Yes. 100LL means 100 octane Low Lead. The lead is needed to lubricate the valve stems in the hot running aircraft engines.

Why would you change the timing? I have not and equipment runs perfertly. There is less chance for detonation if the engine is hot and under load.

The only time you would really need to advance your timing would be if you have modded you saw to a point that the post mod fuel charge need to see some timing to perform to potential of its new fuel curve....

Where in MA? I remember there was a Sunoco station in Westboro that sold Cam2 race fuel... 107 unleaded and 114 leaded. (I used it in my 2-stroke bikes and OIAW in the Harley)

Wasn't cheap - this was back in 1991, and the 107 was a little under $4/gl and the 114 was a little over $4/gl.

I need to stop by Rockingham Dragway, they had a race-gas pump... wonder what the wallet damage will be there??

Even if its 6.00 per gal. Thats still cheaper than 100.00 for 5 gallons :monkey: :monkey: :monkey:

Using Leaded Fuel

Is there anything to worry about using leaded fuel if your saw had a cat muffler. On cars the lead plugs up the cat and causes all kinds of problems? Just my .02

Westboro doesn't have the speedway anymore so I'd be surprised if that was still the case, It's all yuppy-ville and strip malls now.

The Sunoco is still there in Westborough and still sells race fuel. I think it's 110 octane only. There's always a bunch of guys lined up there in the winter with their snowmobiles on trailers filling up with 110. I wonder what kind of compression they're running in a two-stroke sled to need 110 octane?:dizzy:

Also the alchohol is anhydrous, meaning that it will suck up water out of the atmosphere.

Ethanol is not anhydrous. It is denatured with anhydrous. If it wasn't you would have straight industrial grade Everclear.

I don't see what everyones problem is with ethanol. I think it gets a bad name because of methanol and mtbe and all those kinds of corrosive junk.

The only 89 octane gas around here is with 10% ethanol. 87 and 91 doesn't have it but it is rumored that it has traces of ethanol in it at times.
