Can I be honest, selling saws here a PITA

eBay has been good to me over the years. I have two saws there right now - a Stihl 038 Magnum and a Stihl BLK. The BLK is at $2,000 with a few days to go; no way I would have gotten anywhere near that by listing it here. Of course, I have to account for the fees, but I still think this is where to go to sell saws that have some collectibility.
I've made some money on ebay also, just got tired of dealing with about 10% of the "buyers" that know of ebay's policy of always siding in with the buyer, then taking advantage of it. Anyone who has sold on ebay for over 5 years will probably tell you they've been scammed in one way or another.. It's also possible that I got scammed more than other sellers, I don't know. As an ebay buyer, which I still am, I don't remember ever asking for a refund, but I seldom buy anything online that's much over $20..

Wow that's your military saw? What kind of chain is on it?

I've never had a problem buying, trading or selling on this site. Much preferable to Ebay.
Neither have I, but Paypal bothers me somewhat. That company is having some problems. Not sure why Paypal tacks on an extra fee. Buyer can bypass that if the buyer trusts the seller and vise versa. Trust between buyer and seller means everything. Retailers selling merchandise have known that for a hundred years or more.

I typically request payment in a Postal MO.

Yeah, but how can you trust someone you've never met? Most of my buyers were first time buyers of chainsaws and after the feedback I never heard from them again..
I guess if you can bypass Paypal you can bypass ebay also and eliminate the fees altogether by using CL or another free site..

Doing friend and family means the funds come from an account and not a card. Cards have fees, some have "cash back"

Pretty sure buying a chainsaw with anything involving shipping would be a violation of the terms of service.

If you just sent a personal check there would be no fees. Maybe because the seller wants to keep the address secret? Maybe in such a rush? What is the chance of a mail fraud case if the seller did not ship or was not as described? At least you would not be violating the terms and conditions of pay pal.

I would not be suprised one could get back charged for using friend and family other than as intended. How many times a year do you get an email changing the terms of service? Is five a good guess?

I don’t sell on here. I’d do business with some of the guys I know. Just afraid someone wouldn’t like what I have. I’ve thought about selling a couple pieces. Just to thin the herd. There could be minor issues I’m unaware of and get shamed for it. Saw it happen

I guess you could always put in a disclaimer just in case...

I have bought a few saws off here and everything went great. But the way I look at it I cant personaly inspect it .And the seller might overlook something . So the way i look at it Im not going to pay any more than I would take to the casino to gamble with. when I go to auctions or yard sales I dont spend anymore than what i can use for parts or what im willing to lose.... my 2cents lol

Man. Saw some things happen on another site. Just put me off. I haven’t needed to sell any of my saws. Just thought I’d I let a couple go I could possibly “trade” that cash towards some other saws. To try them.

I bought one five years ago that the seller said to potential buyers that it "runs a little rough". After I received it, I discovered a straight-gassed top end and no compression, so it needed a complete rebuild along with several other parts. The seller said, "Yeah, I thought it might need some work, but heck, you guys on this site are all good mechanics. You can rebuild it bottom up, right?"

Yes, I rebuilt it and I still own it -- a Husqvarna 350, now with a 353 top end. Nice saw today, but...

I got the old 353 out today after not running it for at least 2 years. Put a new spark plug in it and gassed it up and it runs as good as ever! When I bought mine the owner said it wouldn't run so I got it cheap. The only thing it needed was a fuel line..

if you have the capacity to set up a account on pirateship.com you can send a 12x12x12 20lb box cost to coast for under 20 bucks typically, using ups. ebay purposely inflates shipping because their fee % taken includes the shipping as part of the number used making them more money off the backs of its buyers. Facebook groups are slam full of scammers now. So far 90% of people have been fair and kind on this site, some are looking to test or take advantage but thats the flavor of pie sometimes.
Kinda small for most saws.
Is anyone aware of the new tax reporting requirements with PayPal? Go look it up. I will not be accepting any more goods and services payments to PayPal. Don't trust me to pay with Friends and Family? Then you aint buying from me.
Yep, I won't sell one S&M.

What, you don't want to try listing one "as is" :popcorn2: . That was a sad display if I've ever seen one, but it revealed a few things to many, I'd never list a saw there, but but sold many there.

Not real certain what you’re getting at there chipper? Nah I’m not listing one as is. Honestly I don’t have anything around with any known issues. I’d probably list what I’ve personally done to them. (Repairs). Other than that I can do pictures.

just seems like there’s expectations for a saw 10 plus years old to be in absolute perfect condition I guess is what I’m saying. I use my stuff. I have a few too many so I run my favorites in said displacement. The others sit around.

I don’t know the whole story on anything that happened to some members but I do believe lynch mobs have been started over a dam used chainsaw…..

The BLK brought $3,550 on eBay. That's before fees, but still not too shabby. I probably could have sold it here, but doubt it would have brought more than $1,200 or so.
