I am a fan of paying with money orders from my bank and letting the seller receive it before he ships. Then again, there has been a lot of turn over on here and I don't know everyone anymore ...
Gotta vote this crap out.Yeah man- unfortunately, it looks like everything concerning online/electronic payments will be tripping an alarm started 1/1/2022
$600 per year I think.Anything over $600 per transaction? I did not see yet how they intend to separate personal vs small business though.
The thing about business is it can be equitable and mutually beneficial for everyone involved. When someone is presented with a deal an on item, the truly classless thing to do is ask for even more money off an already good price. It was a parts saw and presented as such easily $150 worth of good parts. I figured it would be realistic to end up with $50 in my pocket.I don't see why you would be upset with a buyer after agreeing to a price on the transaction. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your statements here, but that's what I'm getting.
If a seller sells something to me, we both agree on the price, and he didn't do his due diligence to figure out or know what shipping is going to be for that item, that's not my fault. I made that mistake once, I lost $20 on an item way back. I could have thrown the $400 item in the trash and came out ahead of that deal I agreed to. I didn't send the buyer a note asking for more money or complaining about the shipping...sorry, that's a seriously classless thing to do in my opinion. I ate the loss because it was my fault for being lazy and not checking shipping before agreeing on a price shipped. Learned from my mistake I did.
After that I either got a shipping quote to the buyers zip code before agreeing on a price OR sold the item plus actual shipping unless I knew it would fit in a flat rate box. Pain in the butt, however, it saved me money.
I don't want to sound like a jerk, but if a seller sent me a note asking me for more money after the agreed upon price for an item because they didn't figure out shipping, well, I seriously doubt I would be sending them ANY money. Unless we were friends or did a lot of deals before hand and something really weird happened. That guy gave you $5 he didn't have to, and you're still upset with him? I don't think you're the type of person that I want to be buying items from.
Imagine telling a customer that I would take their tree down for $400. Then after doing the tree and maybe some equipment breaks costing me more than expected, telling them, 'That was a lot of leg work for just $12 after expenses'. smh...I couldn't imagine the embarrassment I would feel doing that. I just wouldn't do it because it's not right. A deal is a deal, even if it doesn't work out well for me.
That’s bad, I couldn’t imagineShipping? FedEx I find is cheaper.
Then we get the buyer who swaps parts and returns the saw.
Yes, the ruling junta is getting greedier, so they are using the infernal rev newers to try to shake more money out of people selling used toys. Used stuff used to be sales tax exempt. Is anyone aware of the new tax reporting requirements with PayPal? Go look it up. I will not be accepting any more goods and services payments to PayPal. Don't trust me to pay with Friends and Family? Then you aint buying from me.
What you think your parts are worth and what the are actually worth are two different things in many cases. The thing about business is it can be equitable and mutually beneficial for everyone involved. When someone is presented with a deal an on item, the truly classless thing to do is ask for even more money off an already good price. It was a parts saw and presented as such easily $150 worth of good parts. I figured it would be realistic to end up with $50 in my pocket.
I didn’t ask for anything more I’m not sure where you got that from?
He sent $5 as a “tip” lol
If I would have realized this it would have been less headache to throw the thing in the trash. Which in the future I’ll be doing. Don’t act as if a $5 was a show of good faith when I probably had a little over an hour of my time in it. Effectively paid my self ~$9.60/hr lol
What makes you think that it still isn't?Used stuff used to be sales tax exempt.
Yes its a bit down more after the dimensions of the box size.@ lone wolf, Did you figure out insurance? The service would be worthless without it.
I am given saws often because parts and labor are worth more then theA bit of a rant.
I like this site, I really do. Cutting wood, time outdoors and saws are all great. but selling a saw here is a real pain in the ass. Don’t let my new profile and low post count throw anyone off, my old one through FB was corrupted so made a new one.
The seller doesn’t have a picture of the piston and/or a compression test?
Theyre a snake trying to rip people off.
2.) it costs more than $20 to ship a saw coast to coast and anyone asking for more is not out to get you.
3.) “how much would it be to ship to X?, that sounds like a lot my brothers, nephews, ex said it should only be $15”
4.) The ad requested PayPal FF, if you want the protection add the 3%. The buyer sends it normally w/o 3% fee and upon making them aware the buyer doesn’t remedy it.
I’ve bought and sold parts from FB saw forums from people who were BSing and someone mentioned “hey I got one of those laying around, you interested?” Easiest transactions ever.
Sold a parts saw on here for $40 (after they chewed me down of course) probably $150 worth of parts. The shipping ended up being $33 sent the buyer a tracking and let them know. He sent me $5 more lol
That’s a lot of legwork on my part for $12.
Charity is one thing, when it comes time to compensation someone for their work don’t go offering like $15/hr for hard labor.
everything here costs more why would I spend way more effort and headache for less money trying to appease someone in BFE south or east coast who wants to pay their cheap ( or other parts of the country) prices ?
sorry and rant over.
Sawaholics ?Did I say “snobs”? I should’ve said aficionados!
Enthusiasts? Buffs? Addicts? Sawphiles?
If you don't want to lose money selling saws on ebay you have to ask too much, it makes up for all the times you got screwed by crooked buyers on that site. The last "buyer" I had requested Paypal send him his money back because the parts saw had a non working chain brake, which I'm pretty sure did work. He got his money back and kept the saw. That was the end of my selling saws on ebay...Don't blame you one bit. If they can't get a pic of the P&C or answer a few questions, I don't go further.
Best advice I can give is set your price and hold firm. I don't ask for F&F on paypal, 3% just isn't worth it to me.
Shipping charges are so high anymore but some do try to get way too much. I bought a saw from a guy an hour away and he wanted $90 shipping on top of the saw price that was about 10x too high. What really gets me is the ridiculous prices people ask on ebay.
I've had some good buyers on ebay also, some actually thanked me for selling them a nice saw. The problem is that lately the scammers outnumbered the good people so I decided to sell in a different place..Sounds like, you may have been dealing with the wrong people. I never charge more than what I pay for shipping, my parts are very reasonable, tons of great people. Just have to take the time to get to know them. I send f&f every time dealing with anyone on the forums. Some people are running a business and need to cover their end for tax purposes, but most of us are just hobbiest with a sense of gratitude from helping others achieve what they need.
