I'm looking for a decent chipper and I ran across this one but I can't find any tags that say what it is. It looks like it's powered by a Ford Industrial 6 Cylinder. It almost looks like a homemade job or "Frankenchipper" to me. What do you think?

It's being auctioned so who knows where it will end at but if a guy scored it cheap......

Or maybe this one which is at the same auction.

Or even this one although I have never heard of a Bearcat before.

I don't plan on chipping anything bigger than 6" but it would be nice to be able to if the need arises. I'm sure the small chippers wouldn't be able to do it but the trailer mounted one probably could. Any advice/opinions would be appreciated!

You dont want those last two and you may not want the first one as it does look to have some Franken qualities. I would look around for an Asplundh Whisper Chipper, Or you might find a smaller disk chipper at a good price. Take your time and chose well or be sorry later.

It looks like a ford tractor grill and hood, it looks a lot like my Chip more. If you can hear it run and you can ID the knives it may be worth getting if you get it cheap. You will need to mode the chute to blow into the truck if thats the plan. FWIW my chip more is faster than lot of new stuff, and twice as risky!

How would I I.D. the knives? I suppose there would be a part # imprinted on them but that wouldn't tell me the maker. My biggest fear with this one is that I wouldn't be able to get maintenance parts for it and be stuck with some thrown together outdated piece of junk. The fact that it has fresh paint on it scares me a little. I keep wondering if they painted it to fool a gullible buyer into believing it's a nice chipper. I suppose it all depends on price. If it goes for a couple hundred then it will be worth it but for a couple grand I can find a nice name brand unit. I'll have to look up Chip More and see if this is one, Thanks!

If the engine is in good shape and the clutch and the drum and the rest of it looks mechanically sound it should be a good deal for even a couple thousand. Yes, from the pictures it looks like the Ford Industrial 300 or 240 with the straight six. You can have a fab place make a chute for blowing into the back of a truck. Right now they have it set up for just chip and blow. Have them make some fenders too! I have a very similiar looking chipper with the 300 in it. Older Asplundh but she serves me well! If you get it let me know and I can photocopy my engine manual for you. The older stuff like this takes a little more tlc but gets the job done admirably! Mine is about due for a blast and fresh paint! I feed it small limbs mostly since anything over 4" in diameter I use for firewood, except pine of course!-Kevin
