Carbs are carbs let them be carbs

I know very little about Carbs and how they work.

What I do know is my new AT Husky(550XP) is the most responsive saw I have ever owned. It burns very little feul compared to my saws in the past, which over the course of a year can be a signifacant saving.
And most importantly, I can't get my little screwdriver out and f*** things up.
I have been a logger for almost 25 years and seen countless hours lost or worse, because people with a little knowledge think they are an engine tuner.

"Q-pukes suck... Carter/Edelbrocks suck...

When ya wanna make power... bolt on a Holley."

Regirgitated information from the 60'/70's. We've came a LONG ways since then. You can make just as much power, if not more with a Q-jet, do it all the time here. We've caused the demise of so many Holley and Holley "clones" I've lost count. Folks are sick and tired of those gas-guzzling inefficient POS, with over a dozen places to leak below the fuel level. It was pretty cool back in the 70's to toss your factory carb out and run a Holley, plus the sticker in the windshield. You could burn everyones eyes that got behind the car in the High School parking lot too.

These days folks are a LOT smarter than that....well....at least most of them are.

Anyhow, electronics/emissions for small power equipment engines are alive, well, and here to stay. The EPA has made sure of it. Just another thing thrown into the deal that will make for all sorts of Warranty work, and cost the consumer time, and money in the big scheme of things. It's bad enough dealing with ethanol in modern fuel blends, now we have electronic carburetors, so the cost of repairs just went up a notch or two......Cliff

Have you actually felt a 441CM "switch gears" in the cut?

Comparing the automotive carb technology of the 80's to any internal combustion engine of today is like saying:

"Television will never catch on, just look how big and clunky they are with all those vacuum tubes"

Tech from 30 years ago? Really that is the basis? Yes the technology is new to a saw, but not new. Stihl already has FI out now, it will be on saws before we know it (I am surprised someone on here isn't trying to adapt the cut-off saw stuff to a chainsaw....

While I do like somethings manual (windows locks etc.) I love tech in the engines. The current Fords Focs 4 banger has 160 HP, compare that to the v8 Mustang of 1982 that had 140 HP, I'll gladly welcome the tech.

I'll stick to what I understand and can work on. Carry on gentlemen and wieners.

I'll stick to the stuff that I don't have to work on on a regular basis. By the way, in the 5 years that I've owned my current '96 fuel injected ford, the only work I've done on the engine was a water pump, battery cables, and replaced a core heater, and the truck has 253000 miles.

I wish I had the money for a electronic carb saw. I'm sure it would result in a lot less work on my part.
