Carlton 2300-4 kohler engine

I have a carlton 2300-4 stumper that needs a new motor. It currently has a kohler command 25hp. I would like to upgrade to 27 or possibly 30hp. How do I know which model number kohler to buy? Anybody got a good place to get an engine at a fair price?

27hp is a direct bolt in

See the disscussion on rayco 1625 stumpgrinder engine replacement (something like that). I got mine on-line at OPEengines.com. Good service, free shipping and the ability to see if you need the direct bolt on replacement engine or if you can upgrade (I know you can upgrade). Basic info you need to know about is exhaust type and where the engine controls are mounted.

Forgot crankshaft size

I forgot to add you need to know crankshaft (they call it PTO) size and lenght. Kohler has (I think) 2 different size PTOs.
