Hey Doug, of all the movies you posted, for some reason I hit on the one when we were in N.H.
Anywho I twiged to that right away and thanks for posting it, it's a real classic. That has got to be my best work ever!
Thanks Doug,
John

We will have to post a after picture of you Gypo so show them how much you have gotten better

So John, what were your parting words?

Don`t sweat that video, because when you suck, you suck. Why would that day be any different than today?

A little background is probably in order. These clips were taken in late September 2002.

John and Robert had been visiting me for about 3 days or so by the time we went to the Deerfield Fair in Deerfield, NH to enter the chainsaw competition. Each evening that they were here, I'd usually bail between 1 and 3 in the morning, but they'd stay up, out in my shop, drinking and horsing around until progressively later times. On the morning of the fair, when these clips were taken, Robert and John had turned in at about 7:30AM. We left for the fair at 9:00AM and the competition was at 10:00AM. Not only did John do this on less than 2 hrs. of sleep, but he and Robert had been doing this same type of thing for the previous three nights. In the five days and nights that they stayed, they went through no less than 15 cases of beer. Admittedly, I helped with that a bit, but I'm not a real big beer drinker, so lets just say that they "only" went through 13. I think it's safe to say that since I assume John is human, I also have to assume that he was also at least half in the bag during the competition.

We were wondering what kind of saw competitors would be at some fair in NH as I'd never gone to one. Gerry Gingras acually lent Robert a pair of chaps to use. I believe that Gerry may still hold the world record for three cuts, cold start through an 8 inch cant at something on the order of 2.5 - 2.75 seconds. 2.56 comes to mind, but I may be wrong. His saw is a stroked 3120 at about 140cc's and he's running on alcohol and nitro. I timed the first two of his three cuts, using my video editor, and had them at something around 0.45 seconds each if memory serves. If Gerry hadn't bogged in the third cut, he would have beaten Chris handily and I think that's fairly evident from watching both clips.

Robert used my 3120KD with the pipe, but with the old rev limiter on it, it just didn't have the inertia to carry the cut through this small a piece of wood the way it is capabile of now, and certainly not in the league of a nitro-burning full race saw.

To my knowlege, this was John's first time in an actual sanctioned competition with no previous experience. I put up the video clip for entertainment purposes only. Given the circumstances, John did great and we all had fun.

Yes i do believe Jerry is the record holder in 8by8 whitepine , Cliff is the holder in aspen 8 by 8

Why are you raining on my parade Ed? I thought I held the record, after all, I took the cake didn't I?
In the video Gingras is sitting on the log to the right, I don't think he was too impressed with me though. I like the background voices, even women were laughing at me. The white shirt is what did it though.
John

This is a shameful display, I only see ONE piece of safety gear in use here and thats the saw chaps, no eye protection or hearing protection to go with it? what are you guys animals?:)

If you read the above more carefully, you'll note that I said that I assumed that John was human. I could be wrong.
