For the MILLIONTH time! Intelli carb DOES NOT MEAN FIXED JET. There is such a thing as a fully adjutable intellicarb. HUsky uses a "compensating" (intelli) carb on some of their saws. Intelli carb is not the enemy, fixed jets are!

OK for us less chainsaw smart people, does the 660 still use a fixed jet carb?

Something else, it is an agreed thing that openining the muffler and retuning adds around 20% to the power of the saw. The 044 comes with 5.3 hp. 5.3 x's 1.20= 6.3hp, and the 066 comes with 7 hp. I know that the torque curves are diff, but the opened 044 is close to an 066 if its all you got. I rarely have to block up anything in the way of a trunk, my log guy picks it up. Now that i can sharpen chain, I can justify getting a bigger saw.

To my knowledge the MS660 was never equipped with a fixed jet carb, limiter caps yes (easily defeated) but no fixed jets. I am also a fan of the newer style polymer flywheel, if the saw doesn't have to use power turning the flywheel, more is available to pull the chain.

Cool, but the 'larger saw' has nothing to do with it.

An 044 takes a 20", 24" tops.

:)

Pffssst. You easterners are so bar length disadvantaged....poor fellers you are...and bad backs too from bending over.....:blob2:

In softwoods, a stock 044 pulls a 32 bar with ease. I've run them for years...., prefer a 28 or 25 though, I admit, if the trees are smaller or real hardwood.

I'd bought a "magnum" front cover for my 066 (with probably no more than a gallon of fuel through it at the time), and on a 90° day in 22" red oak, I went from 22 seconds even to 19 seconds even with the only change being the front cover swap.  I wasn't racing or anything, just letting it fall through the log.  That's very nearly 16% gain.  By opening up the inlet basket of the muffler and enlarging the pea-hole on the side, 20% should be easy to find.
