I have a MS261C for general work on the property and it goes with me on the tractor. I also have a Makita electric top handle saw for limbing and whatnot that is a joy to use. I'm looking for something bigger to add to the mix for the firewood chores and making rounds for splitting. Any good saws out there that I should consider? I'm a bit budget conscious and a used saw would be fine. Happy to tinker with it if needed to get it running well. Looking to get something that would compliment what I already have. I have a lot of oak trees on the property. Want to get something that doesn't overlap too much with the MS261C, but that doesn't weigh a ton as I'm getting older :) Thanks in advance!

I'd try to find a good used 372 or 044.
If you're on a budget a used saw is the way to go.
I'd get something in the 70cc range, anything less will overlap with the 261 and not be much of an upgrade.
Some guys have good luck with clone saws, I had to tinker with my 660 clone a fair bit to make it a solid work saw.

If I were looking at a 3 to 5 saw plan, I would be looking to step in 20cc increments- so as to notice and justify the step and around 4 inch bar increases.
So if the 261C is 50-51 cc and running 16-18 inch bar- 70cc and 20-24 inch bar would be the next step up for me.
Brand? Well that is entirely up to you- but there are some really good saws past and present in the 70-75cc range.
