i have worn chainsaw trousers while climbing for the last 14 years, front protection only then all round when it became law.sure it gets hot in the summer but we just stop when it starts to get to much for a bit(the best thing to do is wear a pair of shorts underneath so you can take 'em off without offending anyone for a few minutes).anyway there great for the ride to and from work for keepin legs warm.

hot

you get hot, you sweat and that gets cold over breaks, so after break you get a nice cool pair of trousers....untill you start working again

I've got LaBoniville making me another pair. I'm going to us them like overalls, pull them on over the pants when i need them.

So in the UK you cannot use a top handle saw on the ground???

JPS

Don't know if you have seen this document?

http://www.hse.gov.uk/research/crr_htm/2001/crr01402.htm

Industry Best Practice -

AFAG 308 Top Handled Chainsaws "Top handled chainsaws are only suitable for use off the ground"

HSE INDIG317 Chainsaws at Work " Top handled chainsaws, they are only suitable for use off the ground by trained competent arborists"

This is where UK Legislation kicks in -

Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) "As of the 5th December 1998 anybody working on or in trees must hold a nationally recognisied unit of competence" In the Uk that is NPTC

Additional legislation includes the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992

I think it was ROLLACOSTA, are you saying your staff have to provide there own PPE? If so how does this fit within the framework of the Personal Protective Equipment at Work regs 1992?

here's a simple question w/ a simple answer... do you wear chaps on the ground? Why don't you wear them while aloft?

don't forget you might be setting an example for someone who has been running a chainsaw for less than a week.

IMO you are foolish not to wear them on the ground. I dont' care how much experience you have or how long youve been cutting without an accident. These tools are as unpredictable as the weather. A simple slip or hickup could end up with you having a cut in your leg clear down to the bone. Everyone needs to ask themselves if they can afford to not work for 6 weeks while a cut like that heals. Its not gov't mandate that makes it important nor should it.....it is simple common sense. You wear a hard hat just in case a limb was to come down on top of you right?? Why not protect what is one of the most important parts of your body.

driving

you can bee driving all your life wearing a seat belt and never crash....wasting time clicking it in then eh, waste of time gettign the ba****ding thing comfortable

the one time you dont wear it some idiot slams into you..... whoops

in my posts i hope i get accorss the fact that i like the added security that if anything does go wrong im safe.

To Huskys original question. I believe all the chaps have kevlar in them, some with more layers. The Denier nylon is just the outer covering. Speaking as a logger, the heavier or 1000 holds up a lot better if your in a lot of thick brush and briers.
