I was in a shop the other day to have the clutch tightened on a Husqvarna 36since I did not have the special tool. I had put a piece of rope in the spark plug hole to keep the crank from rotating, and the guy was tightening the clutch, when another employee walked up and said "you need to use an impact wrench on that or it will come off". I said no, that I would prefer it to be tightened this way. He seemed a little irrated that I did not want to use am impact on it.

Just wondering what method you guys use to remove/install clutches.

I have no experience with husky clutches but with stihl I just use a big breaker bar and a 19mm socket with the rope in the cylinder for a piston stop and it comes right off. For installation I use a 19mm socket on a torque wrench to set the torque for it. Husky clutches might be difference from stihl though.

I use the rope trick with a small tap hammer for a little light impact to remove the clutch. It works pretty well for me. I have never broken anything. I just snug it when putting it on. With the reverse threads it seems to tighten itself. I have never had on come loose. I usually keep an eye on it for a while.
